Default London road charging

Yesterday it was Norfolk, today London is in the frame:

http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/l...ing%20Standard

"A leading government adviser is calling for congestion charging to be introduced on every road within the M25.

Professor David Begg says drivers should pay up to 10p per kilometre, with every journey tracked by satellite, and tolls deducted from special accounts."

Interesting that he is only looking 10p per km when Norfolk is looking £1.30 and government studies have asserted that the charge should be as high as £1.45. I think that Begg is trying to soften the blow, 10p today, £1.40 tomorrow.

Also note that every journey is going to be "tracked by satellite" so your every move will be monitored. Enjoy.

Coming soon to your locale...

The lunatics are poised to take over the asylum, come the Third Term.

Couple all this with hefty increases in indirect taxation and negative equity on property prices and all the ingredients will be in place for one hell of a crash.

Of course you could just stick your fingers in your ears and sing "la... la... la..." very loudly.

Angry

"Within the M25"? OMFG that is mad. There are plenty of rural roads within that area with no congestion problems whatsoever.

Wink

Well, we'll just abandon the car at the M25 and walk the other 800m to the in-laws.................hang on a sec, that's a great incentive not to see them

So towns like Sevenoaks, Redhill, Reigate, Woking, etc. etc. all just outside the M25 will become property hotspots with people wanting to get out of the M25 but still have quick links into work.

So if you believe it to be true, get yourself a property in one of these towns that has good train links.

Yes, they are. I live in one - and it was far from cheap.

Yeah, I meant even more so. I know they're costly in the first place and they'll soon become ridiculous if these changes get implemented. Depending on the cost, it may price many people out of London and surrounding areas full stop. It'll probably hit the poorest hardest.

Well, the Commission for Integrated Transport quotes a cost of £1.30 per mile for London in its discussion of road charging. It would be expected that such a charge would hit all but the extremely well off hardest. Quite what it would do to the general economy doesn't bear thinking about but as long as the loony left get private cars off the roads then we will all be happy. Not.

Already done, mate. Nice cul-de-sac village location, and paid for too.

Bring it on, if you must. I'll sell up and retire abroad.

It'll never happen.

London would simply become even more expensive and an unvialble place to live, work and set up a business.

They should just impose it south of the river..........

It's a congested dump down there, anyway...................................LOL

It'll never happen.

What leads you to believe that? Are you going to get elected as a dictator in May and overturn several years of planning on the part of the anti-motoring green cycling nutters to get us off the roads? I'd vote for you.

Did you see my post yesterday about it happening in Norfolk? What we are talking about here is well documented government policy for which the infrastructure is being put in place right now.

Did you see my post about how your tax is being used to fund "independant" organisations who are driving this through in order to isolate the current government from such unpopular policy decisions?

This is a big government committment, big money policy that is going to hit hard once that tricky election thing is out of the way. People south of the river, north of the river and nowhere near the river are about to feel the full impact of saying "It'll never happen."

God, you're an idiot.

Did I read your posts? So your posts are are gospel and we are all to believe and follow them as the ultimate truth?

I tend not to read much of the self-righteous posts from certain people on here who think they know everything about everything.

So, no, I read none of your posts

But they will!

The Majority of people are too stupid to
a) realise whats going on
b) do anything about it

I didnt see many people actively complaining about the original congestion charge......which surprise surprise is now being increased. In fact, more fool the idiots that voted red ken in in the first place!

God knows how many people tried to do something about oooh...an illegal war/attack... the govt just totally ignored them.
Muppets the lot of them. They will do what they like when they like, and its pretty worrying.

A well reasoned argument.

Be sure to get your copy of the London Evening Standard tomorrow to learn about an awful lot of other idiots.

did u mean 'it'll never happen' in the sense that a revolt against these proposals will never happen or such charges, etc will never happen ? I think that's where the confusion is.

There's no cofusion. Just H being a reactive troll.

The charge will never happen. No government would risk it - it would be the last straw.

He's also just one person who's an academic, not a politician who would lose his seat.

Get real.

Oh, sorry, you're a troll too. I was forgetting.

LOL

Everyone's a troll that doesn't agree eh? That's new.

Professor Begg, leading adviser to Transport Secretary Alistair Darling

I think that ranks Begg as more than the mere academic that you claim him to be.

Anyway - la... la... la...

Sorry. A fat troll in your case

So a leading advisor, one single person, will change the whole face of driving?

I'd even put cash that the idea is rubbish - just an idea.

Hooray!!! I claim the win.

You've run out of facts and have resorted to taunts

Keep those fingers *in* and keep chanting the la la mantra.

"It'll never happen. They wouldn't dare"
