if you were divorced
im not married, but im not dumb, i hear that living with a partner for so long gives them a right to half your possesions or sumthing
if you run a buisness, are they entitled to half of that?
ie: if i put all my cash into a buisness acount and never had much in the personal one they couldnt touch it?
how would you stand if you had quite a bit in a personal acount but moved it into a buisness acount if you knew things were going **** up?
i dont live with my partner @ the moment, but i can see us doing so in the future and i like to cover all my bases

if she was entitled to half of the buisness and that woud make it go bankrupt or close down, how would that be tackled?

Its a very complex area mate - if the sucess of your business was in part due to her contribution to your lives then she would of course be entitled to a fair share (cash or not cash...). If you have kids then their welfare and effectively that of their carer takes over from everything.
I suggest you invest your money wisely elsewhere - maybe a mistress LOL

Our research shows that there is widespread misunderstanding of the law. 61% of the people we asked believed that couples who have lived together for a while have the same rights as married couples. This is simply not true, and not understanding the law can cause real problems for people when things go wrong.

I know of 1 case that the partner got nothing because she only bought the food for the household which was then negated due to the amount of rent/mortgage she would have had to pay elsewhere, had she not been living with her partner rent free.
All cases are different but if you don't let her contribute to the business or your mortgage/bills you stand a good chance of being able to trade her in for a new model without having to clear the finance.
N.B The law is a complete *** though!
