Sounds like they're scared of catching any real criminals in case they don't roll over and play dead like your average motorist does.

My Friend has got the job to remove all the sirens and some of the lights.

The only cars that will carry and use sirens are going to be the Skodas (armed responce and traffic)

Personally i think it will cause MORE accidents.

This bit made me laugh

This new policy is not being announced publicly in order that Kent's criminals don't find out about it
Bit late now it's in the national newspapers.

Absolute supidity IMHO !
Have to feel sorry for the police whom the majority are trying to do a decent job under increasing pressure and now have both hands and one leg tied behind their backs !
Where the drivers who where involved in the accidents with the police ever question on why they did not see an approaching car with flashing blue lights. You are made aware of this in your driving lessons / test / highway code FFS !
Nothing to do with decling driving standard which has now been officially admitted by TRL http://www.safespeed.org.uk/forum/viewtopic.php?t=2124

Will this eventually also apply to Class 1 police drivers I wonder.
Perhaps it's because it's now recognised that it's a criminal's "human right" to drive illegally in pursuance of their "occupation".
So in busy traffic how do other vehicles assist by moving out of the way if there are no visible and or audible signals?

thing is, police dont appear to attend crimes scenes very quickly anyway even with the sirens... mates motorbike got nicked a couple of weeks ago, a neighbour rung the police while it was going on... and they didnt turn up til 2 days later.... when funnily enough the bike was long gone

They can, however, send you a nice letter, points and fine or not? If not, this new rule will get rather interesting

Now THERE'S a question! If Police cars no longer have Flashing bue lights on the roof, fitting them to your own car can't be deemed to be impersonating a Police car. Would it therefore be legal to do so? (should the urge take you)

From Kent Police website

“It is important to remember that we use many other tactics including CCTV, ANPR and helicopters to track suspects”.
Kent Police don't even have a helicopter FFS!

There isn't much CCTV in the rural areas is there?

ANPR team work Monday to Friday 9-5.

FFS I am so fookin pissed off with this stupid country.

/ Wanders off to look for emigration sites.

No wind up, they are dead serious

1. See and follow a drink driver down the road.

2. Put blue lights on, car fails to stop.

3. As you are not an advanced driver in a pursuit vehicle. Turn blue lights off.

4. Stop so there is no pursuit and let drink driver carry on.

5. Come round corner and find fatal crash, caused by drink driver.

It is going to happen.

This cannot be real I think there has to be some sort of political motivation behind this
A pre election blow for B.liars government

On a Slightly different note my friends 15 year old daughter phoned the police the other day becuase her mothers drunken boyfriend was trying to break into the house. Police turned up in 40 minutes

Yes it is perfectly true.

Well now Kent can't use their lights and sirens.

Unless there is serious risk to life, or a very serious crime happening. It could take 2 hours plus to get to that.

With all due respect, don't be so bloody stupid. Stop turning this into a were being picked on thread. If you have something worthwhile to add then do so. If not then don't bother posting.

This is just madness, pure and simple.

It's something the ordinary copper can't do anything about, and they are going to be the ones who are going to get some serious stick over this.

Accidents happen, police are not infallible, as is no-one in a car. When you're pursuing a criminal, at high speed, something bad could happen, it's just a fact of life, sad, yes, but what can you do about it?

Taking away a visual and aural identity is silly. How the **** can a copper make some pillock in a car move out of the way if they need to attend an emmegency? Use their horn? wave their arms? Oh that's going to work!

Utter stupidity.
