TomTom Florida
Hi Peeps,
I'm off to Florida for a couple of weeks soon, and thought about taking my PDA with TomTom 3 for a bit of guidance/SatNav. Problem is, I don't really want to buy it for two weeks use, it's not as if I go there every year (not been for 10 years), if I went more often I would not mind paying out for it. If anyone has owned/bought a copy they want to sell on, please PM me and I'll make it worthwhile.

I've been looking into his too - off to california on the 20th
Apparently TT sends an ID when it connects which means second hand maps don't work, or that it takes 3 months to transfer over to a new user....
I also couldn't find any on Ebay or for (ahem) download....
I might buy a different software solution with USA maps on instead - £130 is a hell of a lot for the TT maps!
Cheers
Richard

Just ordered this - need to uninstall TT first though, but a lot cheaper than TT USA maps...

Apparently once installed, TT controls use of the GPS receiver so you need to remove it to install another application that wants to use GPS.
This is according to GlobalpositioningSystems technical support - I asked before purchasing. It should arrive in a day or two so I'll find out then.
Cheers

arrrr........no simple answers then, I don't fancy uninstalling TT, as it has taken me 12 months of install/uninstalling to get it running as smooth/flawless as it is now!!! I'm sure I read on the pocketgpsworld forums that there IS A WAY to disable TT from 'taking over' the GPS side of things, and allowing other I'll take a look and report back ASAP!

That was quicker than I expected, maybe this will be of use, might save the need for the uninstall. I have not tried this method though, so don't know if it will definatley work.

Ok, I've loaded Prymenav from www.globalpositioningsystems.co.uk with the US maps. Seems to work fine with my copy of Tom Tom currently loaded - £75 all in comes on 2 cd's with minimal instructions.
I do have wired GPS with the car kit rather than Bluetooth though, which I believe is where the problems have been. One thing I have noticed is that when I run Prymenav then TT, TT throws a wobbler and I have to reset. Vice versa, TT then Prymenav, is fine though....
I'm off to the US on Sunday so I'll let you know how good it is, first impressions are that its nowhere near as good visually and functionally as TT, but then its a lot cheaper....
Might sell it on once I come back as I'm probably not off to the US for a while. Don't think there will be the same problems as TT in terms of licence as you can load it on to virtually any pc/pda.
Cheers,
Richard

How about Mapopolis
I use it instead of TT3 as it is F R E E
www.mapopolis.com the software is free and you can pay an annual subscription to download as many maps as you like, however you can download maps on a 30 day trial
