Head gaskets, BANG!

Head gaskets, BANG!
I have been without my car now for close to a month after frying the gasket and the cylinder on the car, cost is going to be close to 2.5k erggh
seeing as the car is worth 4k, I have been advised to get the mechanics to patch it up and use it as a deposit for a new car, what happens to cars that are used like that do they check it out ?
I have my heart set on a BMW330ci diesel and seen one that i really like and the ride is gorgeous, i have bee accepted for a lease deal, worrying a little bit about using a knackered car even though they will give me 3.9k part ex, when right now the only thing it is good for is keeping the rain off your head!
got to decide really, fix it and then think of keeping it, as it isnt worth paying 2.5k for a car worth 3.9k part ex to get rid of it.

We did that and chopped in one of our old Rover 216's. (just incase anyone remebers me selling one in the "for sale" forum...it wasn't that car - honest! We had two 216's at the time, one minter, one dog...I was selling the minter )
Needed at least £2K spent on the gearbox and ECU to sort it out (already fixed the head gasket )
Chopped it at the main dealers for a 325 BMW, got a nice part ex price too - the salesman made comment that he used to work at a Rover dealers and loved the 216 CVT auto's (we smirked, nodded and thought "you won't like this one sonny" )
It went straight to an independent trader. Probably then went to auction. I just dread the day when some poor unsuspecting member of the public buys it and contacts me up enqireing about the history, where I have to give them the bad news.
