Question What age do you plan to retire?

What with Labour raping our pensions etc. is the average retirement age going up?

On the other hand you don't want to get to the age of 76, for example, by which time it will be too late to enjoy your little nest egg you are so proud of!

I'm aiming for 50 (and the possibility of having to leave the country I hold so dear in order to escape legalised theft by the government)

I'd like to aim for 55 or so, not sure it will happen. Definately will have to leave the country, already making moves to acquire the property in the next few months. Go for a run down old barn in the sticks in France and do it up over the next 20 years or so.

Deffo no later than 55, my mortgage is paid off by then and I will inherit millions from my dead parents. They should be dead by then as surely no one lives much past 76 years of age

Ideally 55.

I do dream of getting a huge pile of cash and never having to work again but I don't play the lottery as I know full well that the odds are so bad and it's a tax on the stupid Perhaps I should

No point in planning when you want to retire - if our Stalinist government gets back in they're gonna make like Maxwell with your pension funds.

Brown has had his snout in our pensions to the tune of £5bn a year by abolishing dividend relief.

Total pensions invested in the stock market right now worth c£1,000bn - assuming identical asset allocation, this is estimated to have been worth £1,300bn if Brown hadn't pulled his trick. i.e. the stock markets are depressed because of New Labour's actions - both driectly as there is less invested and indirectly because of all the pension holes they have caused.

Pension protection legislation is lacking - Labour have known about this for years and done nothing about it.

They have now had the audacity to cap (!) the amount people can have in their pension pots - WTF?

Stealth taxes, lies and spin - and people still vote for them?

And what do you all plan on doing when you retire?

It sounds great retirement, but my next door neighbour is retired and spends most of the time power washing his drive.............

Personally,my goal at the moment is to get myself in a position where i love my job so much i dont want to retire.

Well as in reality most of us are likely to still be working in our 70's, that's probably not a bad idea!

Well, I don't have a spare moment in the day. Used to do a Job I loved and couldn't ever think of not doing it, things changed, went through a period of "oh **** I'm going to go mad!" , then somehow, found myself really feeling quite good about my new life.

Only if you want a high standard of living. The truth is most people could probabyl retire to a small house/old car etc if they wanted.
It finding something to give you a purpose thats the hard bit.

With people living in to their 80's and doing so in a mobile and healthy way, I don't really want to spend 30+ years "surviving".
