Default Competency based interviews?

Has anyone got any good hints/tips on how to do well at competency based interviews and group discussions?

I have a very important (well, to me anyway ) interview coming up and the assessment day involves a group discussion then competency based interview and i'm stressing as to the best thing to study up on

I've learned the role profile of the job (in fact, have been doing the job in my managers absense) and was just really looking for any good sites with example questions that i can work on, also any with good tips for group discussion exercises

Any help appreciated

Listen to the question and then give a single specific example of where you have exhibited the competency. If you only have a partial example then use that, but state it is partial first and then use another example

Short succinct answers

Think about as many competancies that they will ask you about, and plan in advance your actual example to each question to avoid repetiton. There's nothing worse than refering to the same example to all the questions.

State clearly what your role was in whatever example you use and don't refer to we did ... i.e. I was responsible for ...

Also sate what it was you did, how you did it and what the result /outcome was.

Well that's how competency based recruiting operates where I work.

Hope it helps.

A few good tips that I was told for group discussions were to make notes of what everyone was saying, listen to other peoples ideas, try and develop ideas within the group and get everyone to agree at the end (ask each person in term if they agree). You want to try to lead the group in the discussion. Praise a person if they suggest a good idea etc.

If a time limit is given, keep an eye on it and remind the others how much time you have left. If you feel VERY confident delegate the time keeping task to another person!

I have examples of questions asked in work but won't be back in untill Tuesday, will that be to late?

Good luck

It's you, as stated, so that'll be "I" in the answers not "we".
From what I know, the important things to explain about your example are: Frequency (How often you did it), Range (How many people / businesses did it affect) and Impact (what the results to the business were).

Oh and have at least two examples for each competency.

Good luck buddy.
