Complete numptie question here I'm afraid....
Thinking it's about time I got myself a mobile. Probably won't use it vast amounts (not worth a contract), so want to go the pay as you go route. The only problem is that I've not been able to find a phone (on any network), which I actually like and has the features I want. (Thinking about the Samsung D500 or Sony-Ericsson s700i)...
So, if I was to buy a sim-free phone, can I then just buy a pay as you go sim card, stick it in, and it'll all start working? I presume the phone number is stored on the sim card itself?
Thanks,
Iain

Ok, thanks for the info. I know the D500 isn't cheap (around 300 quid), but I think it'd still be cheaper for me getting it like that than on a 30 quid a month contract (which I'd not use very much). Sim free gives me a few more options....
What can I say... I'm a sucker for gadgets

If you're after the D500 you'll be better off signing up a 12 month contract and then changing it to a Pay As u Go after the period is up. With the inclusive minutes and the subsidised price it'll work out cheaper.

The Relax 100 tariffs seem pretty good on here:

I got my D500 (£29.99) & a Nokia 6230 (free for the wife) from Vodafone with both our contracts
which are 200mins free crossnet and 200 free text ALL FREE FOR THE FIRST 6MTHS

a saving of around £325 each
and thats not counting the price of the phones
£325 + £325 + £200 (6230) + £280 (D500)
£1130
