No, it's not SIAL - which is pretty poor for a supposed motoring enthusiasts' bbs.
As I've said on previous threads, start by spending the time making your views known to your MP - that's what they're there for. Too many people do nothing or say 'it's not worth it', so make sure you're not part of the silent majority.

Yep, classic cars and bikes will be banned from the road.
They are also taking steps to ban all offroad motorsport as well.
http://www.laragb.org/defra-consult.html
Didn't know they had autojumbles in their sight as well though

PMSL at the fact that cars over 15 years old will have to submit their intended journeys to the local authority!
"At 10.15 on Tuesday 1st of March, I will be taking my auntie to the outpatients department of the local hospital, then visiting my dentist followed by a trip up the red light district to score...."
Whatever, this will surely never happen! People, vote the ****** out at the next election. You only have yourselves to blame if you don't vote or vote for the wrong party!

The fact that it's ludicrous doesn't seem to make much difference though. It's ludicrous to assert that people shouldn't be able to repair their own vehicles (another suggestion), or to assert that it's always dangerous to travel at more than 70mph on a motorway... oh.

Here's an easier to read transcript:
Bright future for classics?
This was spotted in that splendid little publication, Jumblers News, the magazine of the National Jumblers Federation. You may or may not agree with the sentiments, but it is nevertheless food for thought.
The Editor says: "While I hate to be political, I think a lot will depend on whether Blair gets back into power in the forthcoming General Election. The Labour Government is anti-heritage and therefore anti-old cars (and bikes) and anti-autojumbling. I have my doubts whether autojumbling will survive another four years of this Government. There are a lot of proposals which have been aired in the past and rejected. This doesn't mean that the Government has forgotten about them it is just waiting for an opportunity to bring them out again. They're all in the interest of safety and fighting crime, of course. Let me remind you of some.
"No one to carry out any repair work on their own vehicles. All repairs to be carried out by an approved garage. This would kill all restoration projects stone-dead and lead to the demise of a lot of car (and bike) clubs.
"Only vehicle manufacturers through their agents and dealers to sell spare parts. This would make it illegal for private individuals to sell vehicle parts at autojumbles.
http://www.oldbikemart.co.uk/thisissue.html
Just unbelievable. Is there no end to the spite and venom of the New Labour 'reforms'

Here's some more:
I couldn't read that image very clearly, so went searching - found this comment on Classic Motorcycles ......

Or old vehicles soon could be. A recent copy of Jumblers News contained a scary view of just what life for old vehicle enthusiasts could be like if the Blair regime engineers another term. This Government has consistently proved it itself to be anti-heritage and definitely anti-motoring. Proposals that have been discussed could effectively spell the end for our hobby. And don't think it couldn't happen; to make a comparison look at the hunting laws. No matter what your views on the subject are, what actually happened is the Government picked something they didn't like and railroaded a ban through. Don't be naive to think that it couldn't happen to our interest. Now that they are buoyed up by one success, the next victim will be pursued with more vigour.
Among the proposals discussed and rejected but not forgotten are a ban on anyone other than an approved repairer to carry out any work on a vehicle. The criminalising of private individuals selling spares. A possession tax our sister publication Old Bike Mart has just run a successful campaign against this, but will the Government take any notice? Cradle-to-grave taxation of all vehicles even if they are a pile of bits. Autojumbles subjected to ever tighter controls and, to police this, a vast army of local authority snoopers with dictatorial powers. Perhaps even more worrying is the one that proposes to restrict usage of vehicles over 15 years of age.
Oh, don't get me wrong. The proposals will be dressed up as 'initiatives to cut crime' or 'for health and safety' but the bottom line actually reads 'we don't want you to do that, so you won't do that'. Don't sit back and wait for it to happen, do something now, make your feelings known, raise awareness in the Press though I personally won't be splashing naked in the sea off Brighton, like the ladies of the hunt lobby did, in the hope of raising awareness of our cause .

that is shocking.
I worked out the other day that my astra owes me the best part of 10k (inlcuding initial purchase and all maintanance costs)
If anyone comes looking to take it away then they will have a fight on their hands.
I'm off to post this on driftworks.

Do I detect dissent. Do you all not realise that you are being led to the glorious uplands of the wonderful life of the Europrole.
The tactics are working because initially the areas being targetted are basically minority interests.
Once these minority pastimes are eliminated the Establishment will feel confident to tackle larger groups.

It is interesting to watch shock and realisation slowly setting in and how people who are posting "I never do anything wrong it will not impact on me. If you can't do the time don't do the crime..." etc. get the wake up call when the full implications, for them, of the control systems being put in place start to become clear.
Wake up chaps, it is going to be nasty, it is going to impact upon all of us and if you think it is nothing to do with you then you are probably the person who is in for the biggest shock of all.

...well that will be the end of every Land Rover club in the Country then... Somehow, I don't think we're going to let that happen.
No way they're having the other halves Rangie, I'd have to tell them everywhere I'm going to drive my Little 33yr old Series!
...do we have any 'offical' sources of information on this?

Why are they doing this though? Who is pulling their strings? Why is the car so hated and enthusiasts being penalised? Please tell me, I'd love to know who's behind all this and I doubt it is one guy who stands at the front.
