Default Any pinball fans on here?

I've just bought a Terminator 2 Pinball machine and I love it, even the Mrs can't keep of it

Few teething problems at the moment which need fixing (the machine is over 10 years old!) but hopefully nothing too serious.

Any fans on here or shall I get me coat

Chris

I've got Terminator 2, Hurricane, Addams Family, Pac-man, Star Trek TNG, Cirque Voltaire and others...

Just Google for 'Virtual Pinball' and 'vpinMame' (you need both of 'em).... (nearly) as good as the real things - though cost SIGNIFICANTLY less and takes up nowhere near as much space!

Hurricane is brilliant - My brother has the real table and it's identical...

Have you had any trouble with the T2 machine? At the moment mine keeps firing out multi ***** at random (normally 5 secs after you shoot). Checked the switches, they all seem o.k.

I did have a Tales From The Crypt pinball and a Mortal Kombat II machine. Unfortunately, they somewhat cluttered the dining room so had to go

Always wanted a real Star Trek Next Gen one

I have a couple at the minute, have had 20ish over the years.

Star Trek NG, Roadshow, Star Wars (Data East), Simpsons, The Getaway.

Pinmame is no substitute for the real thing.

Fires totally at random or during certain events?
Does the game actually go into multiball feature or just fire multible *****?

It's almost certainly one of the trough switches sticking, maybe at worst a switch matrix driver sticking on or shorting out, check thoroughly in switch test that only one switch at a time is operating when you press each one.

It's totally at ramdom, the game doesn't actually go into multiball mode, it just fires out extra *****, sometimes 1, sometimes 2.

I thought it was probably one of the trough switches but they seem fine, the switch test doesn't reveal any errors

Got some new switches to fit (red and white targets), will have a good look then.

Cheers

A switch will only show up as faulty in the diagnostics if it hasn't been activated or if it's stuck down for a number of games, if you have one that is sticking occasionally this won't show up as faulty.

It's most probably expecting to see 3 ***** in the trough and one on the playfield (can't remember how many ***** on T2), if suddenly a trough switch closes, but the outhole switch wasn't triggered (end of ball) then it will send another ball into the shooter lane, ***** sensed in the shooter lane will always be fired out hence the dodgy multiball.

If there's a short on the diode or a wire grounding out etc then that'll be the problem.
Leave the game in switch test, activate for instance the shooter lane switch, have a beer/lunch or go out for a few hours and see when you come back if mysteriously the last activated switch is still the shooter lane switch or if the trough switch suddenly appears to have been made.

Also remove all ***** from table, leave in switch test and give the playfield a good shake to simulate gameplay, again the trough switch should not be made.

If all else fails spray some electrical cleaner on each switch and activate the switch rapidly at the same time. (keep all fluids well away from playfield/plastics/electrics and don't be tempted to ever grease any solenoids, the plastic sleeve does the job of lubricant and if an assembly is binding then it's nearly always the plunger end all mushroomed up.)

More advice from Dr Pinball is available for a small fee. Enjoy
