BMW 330D/320D- with it being diesel, tax wont be so heavy, its RWD and has pretty good performance considering, exellent mpg and will happily take that sort of mileage per year.

Yes with a company car you get battered with tax but at least everything is paid for by them and I don't have to worry about anything going wrong.

Ditto... I went for the new Golf GT TDi with 17" alloys, CD changer and centre arm rest.
Fitted a tunning box for a few extra ponnies and it goes like a train, pulls very well through all the gears (coming from a de-cat UK turbo 2000) although it rattles like a bitch in the cabin!
Just coming up for 14k miles in the last 3 months and I have averaged 49mpg! very impressive as I don't hang about, cruise on the m/way at 85-90 and you return almost 50mpg, can't be bad.
Handling is great and company car tax sensible, what more could you want?

I didn't get a remap (company car) I got a tunning box from HH Tunning that can be fitted/removed in about 5 minuites.
Granted, it's not quite the re-map quality but the options for re-mapping the Mk5 are still limited, they currently have to remove the ECU and 'flash' it on the bench... I far preffered the Revo SP1 system you could use to switch the map on and off via the diagnostic port but that might come with time.
The box does make a noticible difference, and I had no problems keeping up and nosing ahead of a Mk4 V5 the other night.

As for the Seat Leon Cupra R, it may not as nice a finished package as the Golf, but you get a whole lot of bang for your bucks. It's pretty much built on the same platform, has the 1.8T VW/Audi engine unit, as used in Golf, TT and A3 etc.
I took one of these out for a testy, and it really shifts, lots of power and torque, makes a nice sound, and it has a nice chassis too. No turbo lag, the only problem would be going through front tyres! Inside it feels solidly build and its attractive. Defo benefited by being bought out by VW.
Personally I think they're quite pretty too, I saw one yesterday in charcole met grey - very nice.
