What an idiot I am......
Going away last Friday for a family wedding and decided to take the trusty old Diesel Golf. Popped in to BP to fill her up. £30 quid of your finest Ultimate diesel should do, as I already had 1/4 of a tank.
10 miles later car starts to lose power.........Penny drops.
Just put £30 quid of unleaded petrol in!!!!!
Anyway nice man from AA relays us home and say 1000 cars a day do this, and that there is big money in drainouts. He says approx £200 to drain, change filter and top back up. Got mine done for £90 from a mate and a full tank so could have been worse.
And the most unpleasant thing about it......having to sit in the car waiting for the AA to turn up, with the wife for 40mins..."Silence is goldern" springs to mind. In the end I had to tell her to swear at me, as I could see she was near bursting point.
All sorted now, and no damage to the car...thank God. Just got to eat a little humble pie for a few weeks.
Take care at them pumps people.

I think the BP thing was a specific instance where they's filled a diesel tank with unleaded at a motorway service area. So it was BP's fault when people got a tankful of the wrong stuff.
Can't see them taking responsibility for other people's mistakes when they put the wrong juice in their car. (And I've done it myself about 9 years ago. Brand new Peugeot 406 diesel with 400 miles on the clock. I'd had it for 2 days. Stuck 54 litres of unleaded in it and came to a stop with the "check engine" warning light flashing. While waiting for the AA to arrive, it struck me that it was a bit of a coincidence that it chugged to a stop so soon after refuelling. Checked the receipt and experienced an "Aaaaaahhhhhhh, BOLLOCKS!" moment. )

The hose pipe, bucket and suck hard method didnt work for me when tried it once.
What do the AA do? and whats the DIY method?

AA man refused to drain the tank, saying you have to have a licence to do this and deal with the contaminated fuel.

It's a warranty job, and the Ford dealer seems to be in no rush to sort it out.
