Haven't regretted it for a moment, other than losing £4k on the P1.

Still, i'll probably make it up in fuel savings ove rthe next couple of months.

Plus, overtaking a chav is far more satisfying in a Skoda.

My TDi Skoda would give around 60 on a run.

My e30 325i does 25 if I'm lucky and under 20 around town.

I go to work in an Octy TDi, slightly modded for less than £200, 140bhp, 210lbft and 60mpg is easy.

Some owners report getting 700 miles on a tankful which isn't bad when you struggle to get more than £39 worth of Diesel in it. Most I've got is 660miles and I never drive for economy. Worst tankfull has been 460miles which was all short city driving milage on a cold enigne, still over 40mpg though.
Seam to be rated well in all the customer satisfaction and reliability surveys as well.
Perhaps all those Taxi drivers aren't daft afterall.

I read over on another BBS that the VAG TDi 90/110 engine is the most thermal efficient diesel ever fitted to a road car. Only downside is the old 90/110 TDi's are quite vocal and rattly.

Cheers
Lee

Its was rattly if stood outside .... but inside with the radio on it was silent

I am SERIOUSLY impressed ...... someone has just told me that SKODA are offering 10% CASHBACK as its about to be replaced - is this correct? ..... it means that its a £12,000 60mpg car, fully loaded!

Pete

Oh, yes, SKODA Owners HELP me .... there was a button with ASR written on it, when pushed it illuminated a warning triangle on the dash with an anti-clockwise arrow on it ...... what does it do?????

Anti Slip Regulation.

Traction Control in other words.

I bought a golf gt tdi 115 bhp three months ago now. The P1 hasnt moved an inch since i have bought it. Its great for long trips, tonight Im going to Ireland and a full tank of derv will last me ages! In the P1 id only get around half the mileage from a tank. Can park the golf anywhere, I dont have to worry about it as much as the P1 for getting stolen, carjacked and the service interval is 20,000 miles!

I actually get to a destination quicker in the golf than i do in the P1 on long motorway trips. I dont have to fuel stop and can get silly mileage at a higher 'cruising' speed.

Yes indeed Pete why are we all driving Imprezas!

Skoda is a brand on the up at the moment, and its not really hard to see why. The build quality is amazing for the price, and I quite like the looks of them all too - very understated.

If you got 62mpg in the Octavia 1.9TDi you'd probably have got 65+ in the Fabia VRS which uses the same engine (130bhp).

Fabia VRS really does make a lot of sense - theyre almost identical in size to a MK3 Golf, build is excellent, running costs are very low, and value retention is Audi-like. Oh, and 0-60 in under 8sec's in quite a few road tests.

When you get the triangle warning light it's turned off.

You also get EDL, MBA, ABS and EBD.

It's worth getting the 110 version as this has the later VNT turbo and far stronger pickup through the rev range.

Not sure how many Mk1 Octavia's are left now, the new Octavia comes with a 1.9PD 105bhp or 2.0 16VTD with 140bhp.

Cheers

I can vouch for that. I was quite surprised how often the traction control light comes on just 'pootling' round town.

Plus you can get Jabba to remap it up to 180bhp and over 300ft/lbs for not much money, though I'm happy with mine standard.

We IMPREZA owners are being shafted aren't we??

SUBARU's massive charges for parts/service

The cost of the cars ..... once thought of as a bargain, now aren't

It pains me to say it, but say it I must - SUBARU have lost the plot ....

SKODA's SUCK.

You look like a sad muppet in one. You see all the saddo's lurking around in dark corners wearing anoraks patting themselves on the back saying things like "its an A6 but cheaper" and "i got 62mpg" and "surprised how often the traction control light comes on"..... *****.

Drive a proper feckin car

You paid £25 to drive 440 miles looking like a **** the whole time...... they should have PAID YOU...

But then - you do drive an MX-5 so maybe its a break from the hairdresser get-up

Been there, done that. The P1 was a vastly superior driving experience, but looking at the overall ownership experience (fuel, insurance, servicing, nickability, reliability, etc.) then the Fabia vRS wins hands down for me. Plus I don't GAF if people think i'm a sad ****, I know I'm a sad ****!

Wouldn't rule out getting another scooby eventually though, or an Evo...

jza,

How many miles do you do a year?

Scooby is good fun, but you have to be mad to use one to do 30000miles a year, hence why I have the Octy.

The Octavia does exactly what it says on the tin.

The TDi will also go upto two years or 30000miles between services and the last service cost £130.

Cheers

Did the Scooby thing for years but the image isn't what it used to be.

I actually like Skoda's current image, nothing but praise from owners and motoring mags/tv, good residuals and yet still thought of as a joke by those who don't know their cars.
Infact very similar Subaru's image when the Impreza first came out.

One thing I noticed today over the 440 miles ..... no-one took you seriously in the Skoda - they wouldn't pull over!!

The Impreza moves cars over in its frontal bow wave ... respect!

I had the same with my Calibra - cars would move over .... bought a Primera GT and noone wanted to move over ..... Impreza moves 'em!!

Get some 100w rally bulbs in the main beam, that helps shift them.

Then as you come flying past they have a WTF type expression on their face.

Jon (Tavia RS) who spends a lot of time on here has a Diesel Octavia and is known to flash Scoobs out of the way on track.
230bhp, coilovers and big brakes do help though.

Jon's previous Octavia would pull a genuine 170mph+
