Been on that for ages. It doesn't stop them all, but does help a lot.

Got a load of auto-diallers recently. They just dial numbers at random, and when one gets answered, they hang up immediately and add the number to a list for a sales rep to ring. No ex-directory service is going to protect you from them unfortunately. Very annoying....

My girlfriends parents get that daily About 75% of the time there's no-one then when they answer the phone. If it was me I'd change the number.

For the "silent calls" you can register against that on the tps online site as well, small bit of text to the right IIRC, you dial a number and register rather than doing it online. Worked for me, was getting calls at 3am and all sorts

I registered with the TPS a while ago but it hasn't stopped all the calls unfortunately. I'm still getting between 2 to 4 calls a day from Indian call centres and about the same from auto-diallers. I'm also getting those bloody annoying "You've won a competition..." calls too. These annoy me the most as they fill up my answerphone space if I'm out

I think I might buy a whistle for the Indian call centre calls, it was funny winding them up at first but now I just wish they'd go away

TPS worked well for me, still get the silent calls (which I understand is a computer checking to see if there's anyone at that number) but nearly as many as we used to.

we've also got a caller display thingy - best couple of quid ever, if it shows up the caller is "number withheld" or "number unavailable" then it doesn't get answered...

Might give SJ Skyline's method a go though

TPS worked perfectly for me.
No silent calls, no marketing calls.
Still get the odd calls saying that I've won something but thats only occaisional.

Was getting a couple of (silent) calls a day.

Which option do you click? I clicked "To stop unwanted telephone marketing calls" do you think that will stop the automated dialers?

Thanks

What sort of retard question is that, have you ever ordered anything online? You have to enter your number to proceed with some orders, put a false number in you may say but what happens if there's a problem with your order, who do they speak to then?
