Default Serious Speeding Convictions

From this Wed MCN…

Police officer caught by speed camera is his Imprezza @ 136MPH = £500 Fine , 1 year ban

Biker caught on same stretch of road @ 145 MPH = £5000 fine and 2 year ban

Police office was caught by a speed camera so was just charged for speeding, biker was caught and “seen” by a patrol, so was also charged for dangerous driving…..

How mad is that??!

good insnt it? the cop was speeding and is being done. The camera cant tell if it was dangerous and ppl on here would say that it may well not have been.

case 1 over.

case 2......the biker was seen riding dangerous.......now ppl on here are all for police to use their eyes and not just cameras to see who is really dangerous and who is just speeding....biker was seen to do both.....case 2 over.

The rider wasnt acting any more dangerously than the driver, (apart from an extra 9MPH!) its the fact the law can ONLY use camera's for the speeding .

If the Imprezza driver had been caught at 136MPH by the patrol, he too would have been up for dangerous driving!

The massive difference in the sentences seem unjust to me...

how is this know? if it is fair enough, otherwise i dont see the point?

eg. A car goes 43 mph in a 30 limit and passes a camera. Should he get a ticket? lets assume you say yes. 3 points and a fine......we cant discuss his driving style because it wasnt seen so is not relevant (unless you are saying all speeding is dangerous?)

A car goes past a police car at 45mph in a 30 limit....the police decide he was speeding and was driving dangerous........should he get 3 points and a fine? I though SN was against dangerous driving?

The biker is far far less likely to kill or injure a 3rd party than the copper in the Impreza.

Of course they may kill themselves, but that's their own problem really.

dangerous driving is just that....if the cops think it is then thats what you are done for. You have no idea of the results of his driving do you?

i would rather a speeding bike hit me at 45mph in a 30mph than a lorry hit me 29mph.......doesnt make the lorry a dangerous driver.

No, I have just the information in the thread, therefore my post was based on all other things being equal. I have also assumed that for a biker to be doing 149 and live they must have some clue what they were doing.
If he was weaving across all 3 lanes while trying to wedge a mobile phone between his helmet and ear having just dialled then the situation changes a bit.

doesn't make the bike dangerous either, however at the same speed the lorry will be more dangerous than the bike. Danger is relative not an absolute. Walking in the park is dangrous, just at the bottom end of the scale.

You’re missing the point Tiggs,

There was no end result of the bikers riding...He was automatically convicted of dangerous driving because of the speed, as would the car driver if he had been caught by a patrol rather than a camera

Both pleaded guilty to their respective cases.

What im saying is an extra 9MPH shouldn’t cost you 10 xs the fine and a 100% longer ban

This is the same court and same judge!

Im sure you would feel rightly aggrieved, after all you’re the man that squirmed out of your speeding conviction, no?

You're forgetting to mention the biker was standing on the seat at the time.

i didnt squirm...i saw a very easy way to avoid and it so i did. If it hadnt work i'd have been happy to pay the fine.
