Samsung D500 Irda(infrared) problems

Samsung D500 Irda(infrared) problems
I know a few of you have the D500, and other Samsung phones, so can someone please let me know if this is normal.
I have backed up all my numbers from old Nokia phone to Ipaq via infra red with no problems - also from D500 to Ipaq is ok, but I cannot beam the contacts to the D500. My Ipaq recognises the D500 and the phone asks if I want it to recieve data, after pressing yes, nothing happens - no data received etc. It send the data back to my old Nokia.
I can also send data from the D500 to the Nokia ok, but the other way fails.
If this is normal (which for some reason I doubt) how can I get the data from my Ipaq to my D500.

The Ipaq does show its status, it eventually fails after waiting for ages. If I send a contact from the D500 to the Ipaq its ok, but it does not go back (I have deleted it from the phone). How long did you wait for stuff to get to the D500 (cod the old Nokia is literally seconds?
