does anyone know if there is anyway of recording off sky so you don't have to watch the program you are recording. in this day and age you would think this would be possable.

With normal sky box you only have one tuner so you would still be tied into watching the program you are recording or watching normal tv. Sky plus has two tuners so you can watch one channel and record another. Also you can watch a recording whilst saving two other programmes at the same time. This is the way to watch all tv as you can skip adverts, and crappy bits.

The only draw back with the Liteon and other budget DVD recorders (or certainly this seems to have been the case with their previous models) is that they have no RGB input so recording quality from an RGB source like SKY is going to be pretty poor. Not sure if they are planning on changing this for the new ones?

to record one and watch another you would need two tuners, and at least a dual lnb dish. (sky supply a quad with sky +).

so you could go down the route of obtaining and cabling in another box, and obtaining a duplicate card legitimatly or illegitmatly, but with the hassle and cost factor you might as well get sky +.

please be aware sky will be launching a new digital system this year. I would not spend my own money on sky + now.

What is the new sky system that will be launched. Love my sky+ but the box is broke again. Third box to fail, but will still buy another.

The new box SKY + 160 stores up to an average of 80 hours recording time.
Thats the only difference I know of, apart from the box is smaller.

Have had one on test since Aug.

Annoying at times but at least you can still watch BB1 to channel 5 non digital whilst you record.
