Mobile phone dead, please help... **UPDATE**
Basicly the phone has had something spilled on it, was very wet and damp, i have cleaned it out and dryed it with a hair dryer and still no joy, it wont charge either and both front and inside screen are steamed up
we have ordered a new V525 to replace it, the main reason to get it working is we have pictures and voice recordings containing a family member that is no longer with us
any help guys?

Take the battery out and put it in the airing cupboard or somwhere that is warm 24/7 and leave it a few days.
Presumably the piccies you mention are not on a memory card that can be extracted from the phone.
Unfortunately if the phone was on and running when you wet it, its probably %$^&ed.

I would have rinsed it down with water first - clear off any crapola that my cause electrical shorts and then leave it to dry!
- works well with keyboards and red wine

Open the handset up and remove the PCB to let it dry properly. Also check for any water corrosion. If you or anyone you know is handy with a soldering iron or hot air nozzle, you can re-flow the solder if it has been affected.
Check the battery actually works as well. Also, if a battery is very flat it sometimes takes a little time for the phone to start charging after you connect the charger.

I dont think getting it too hot will help mate I would open up the back of it and do the airing cupboard thing for a couple of days.
I managed to screw up my LPG ecu by using a hairdryer on it
I hope you get it sorted

It's likely that the liquid itself didn't kill the phone but attempting to charge/turn it on while it was still wet.
Another thing you can do (providing the phone is certainly dry now) is pop into a phone shop and ask them if you can try a charged battery, in case your charging circuit is dead.
If that doesn't work then it may just need re-flashing to get it turning on again.

MrManchester, if you do take it to a shop ensure the instruction to preserve the data on the phone is written clearly on the engineer's worksheet otherwise they may reset it back to factory defaults while trying to repair it. Good Luck.

Hi,
DO NOT use water !!!!
Try de-ionised water - should be able to pick up a bottle at a car part shop !! Dip the phone in that - should do the business. Tap water has too much **** in it and ends up making things worse.
The above trick works if you do it within a relatively short period of time of dropping your phone in water or other liquids.

I can do it, but it's more likely a component (or components) in the charging circuit has gone rather than the connector being defective. Have a close look at the connectors, with a magnifying glass if need be, if that is okay then see if the soldered connection of the connector to the pcb is okay.
The shop i took it to said she had opened the phone and cleaned everything up and i may get away with sending it to motorola, who knows.
worst case scenario, how much to replace the componant in the charging unit of the phone?

When it's turned on (borrow the battery from the shop?), either send the pictures you want by picture-message to another phone or
not sure if this model has Infra-red or Bluetooth, I'd be surprised if it didn't have one or the other, connect to another phone or laptop and transfer the pictures across.
cheers

^^exactly what he said^^. Go back to the shop NOW, get your pictures off it, THEN try messing about with it. I'm sure the shop wouldn't mind esp. if you explain why the pics are so important.

If she says the phone is cleaned up then it's worth a try returning I suppose.
But at least the phone works and you can get your stuff off it which is the good news!
As said, take your photos etc off it first. Pop down the shop and get them to charge your battery. Even if they don't have the phone they can give the battery a quick blast.

i have have a mate posting me a broken motorola MPX20 or something like that, it has windows messenger on it if that helps, im just hoping the battery and maybe even the charging unit are the same. i may even use it as a charger for the battery and then put that in the V525, the MPX20 works, it just wont stop vibrating! (ooh err)

That Motorola range is notorious for the charger connections getting dirty and not charging. They get covered in fluff and cr@p in you pocket and then will not charge.
Clean them with a pencil eraser and or emery board (gently until shiney) and see if it charges. Remove the battery to ensure no short circuit.
I would do the same for the battery connections inside the phone as well.
