Question Anyone up for a £599 Model??

Of the cutty shark (or whatever) on these magazines .....

Bloody hilarious, read the small print that appears ... 100 mags needed for full model - at £5:99 each (first one 99p!)

What the hell do you do if you miss one? If they go out of business 98 mags in? If they pull the plug after say 95 mags?

Who the hell are sad enough to build a model over 4 years?? Bi-weekly mags! and pay £599 for the priveledge??

WTF is it all about then?

Pete

What are you questioning??? The publisher sells the magazine and bits of Cutty Sark for extortionate amounts of money. Certain members of society buy it and feel a certain amount of satisfaction or 'whatever' for having done so. Everyones happy or not as the case maybe.
What has it got to do with you anyway you nosey git?
Get your poor daughters mobile phone sorted out before you start interfering in things that don't concern you. Infact get to bed you incontinent old bugger it's past midnight you know
Oh I found this sight for you www.incontinent.com don't say I don't give you anything. ****.

I guess you missed 'build you own remote controlled car'.

The adverts are on now. 70 issues to complete at £5.99 an issue, but the first is at a special price of 99p and you get a wheel.

The print briefly along the bottom of the screen says control unit is an individual cost of £44.99

So a grand cost of £459.29

At least a car is better than a boat.

Its not even a particularly good car. Be interesting to see how they attach the engine to the front of the magazine.

If you wanted one that bad most model shops offer finace. Better off to finance a much better car than to struggle to get the bits for something that took months to build.

And another thing - if the RC car really only costs about £200 from a shop. How much would the cutty sark thing cost to buy as a full kit?

Only ask becuase I'd quite like to build one.

i had this when working in my mates radio controlled hobbyshop.

some "craftsman" walks in (ex-toolmaker, like me) and says he subscribed to the Deagustini (sp) mags for the r/c nitro car.

young "assistant" sales guys chirps in, what the "f" did you do that for?

i said, in the guys defence, that certain people dont want to buy stuff off the shelf and get enjoyment from the building and documentation that comes with these periodicals and calling the bloke a **** is not exactly showing good sales skills.

typical of the youth of today - throw a bit of monay at something and have it instantly!!
without the appreciation or satisfaction that comes with the "hobby"

makes me fookin sick.

stop questioning peoples decisions.- they are grown up, let them buy what they want!!!

blimey when i was growing up i save d for ages, just to get an amplifier, then a few months later had a turntable (goldring) then and only then did i have enough dosh for my speakers to actually hear something....!!!

What I want to know is when they're (Deagostini / del prado etc etc) gonna run out of Ideas - Maybe we should help them out with a few to keep them going.

1. Build your own "Car Web Site" - 79 editions starting with "registering your URL" and finishing with "Finding 45,000 saddos to join up".

2. The Complete History of News at 10 - 25,000 DVDs that track the development of the News at Ten - See All 25,000 episodes.

3. Build your own Thermo-Nuclear device - Maybe Pete could help with the Authoring for this one ??

Not seen the ship one but seen the RC car one loads of times. Usually there's a glut of these adverts after xmas time, mainly by Deagostini.
There was one last year where it covered building a model of the Impreza, can't remember what the final cost turned out to be, but it was expensive!

Do'h! I've got the De Agostini RC Impreza at home ....

My mother-in-law bought all the issues for my son (who is only 4!!!) - i reckon it must have cost her > £250 in all!

Anyway, over the Xmas hols I decided to start building it up ... got as far as issue 20, only to discover they had given me 2 right halves of the gear housing!

I'm currently waiting for them to send me the correct left gear housing - not exactly holding my breath

Needless to say, I'll be talking the mother-in-law out of any future such schemes!
