36inch CRT - name calling!
Which would be the best make for picture quality?
I have a SONY Dolby Pro-Logic set-up, so NICAM is adequate ...
Its the picture quality I want ...... now, these 3 have decent 100Hz TV's for around £900 for a 36" Flat
Philips, Panasonic or Toshiba??
SONY?, my dad had 3 SONY's and sent them all back - he now has a Panasonic.
The Toshiba at £799 is the cheapest .......
I don't really hold much for Philips reliability .......
What do you reckon??

Ok i'll be a good boy now
I would have said sony as I have had no problems with them and the sony TV I had was good quality, but as you say, I wouldn't trust them if I had sent three back.
Philips then, as I have heard good things about their customer service.

Have you looked at 100Hz sets? I couldn't live with the pixelation on a Sony KD32-NX200 and sent it back after a few days. There was some pink tinging in the corners and I felt it wasn't worth the £900.
Parents have a 32" Panny and I've been very impressed with it. Still get pixelation on it as it's another 100hz telly.
Can't fault either on DVD's or games consoles though.

why do you want 100Hz??
compare a proper toshiba 36inch crt tv to a 100Hz one on terrestrial tv and/or video and you wont want a 100Hz.
However if it is for mainly sky or dvd then 100Hz is fine
Toshiba 36in widescreen tv's are nice, ive always liked toshiba's not stupid money, not too many gadgets just a good solid picture.
However it is 1+ years since I looked things may have changed.
Paul
ps I only have B+O stuff anyways

Anyone care to explain the difference of 50Hz & 100Hz where 32"/36" CRT's are concered as looking to get a new one myself and always assumed that 100Hz was the one to go for?
Will only really be used for Sky, DVD's (going for that Denon 5.1 surround sound system from comet (the 1 for for £426) when I get round to buying it ) & a PS2.

Philips make the tubes for B&O and Loewe. Alot to do with picture quality is the way the image is processed though.
Why not go for a really cheap plasma from Comet or Tiny they are really really good

If they still have them.
You just need to buy the AV box.

Pete, there are several forums for TV and similar stuff, have a search round, they helped me when I was looking for a Plasma, bought a Panasonic in the end, fabulous.
I was going to buy a 36" CRT, the Toshiba looked good but there was a bunch on the Forum that had problems, the Philips is supposed to have great picture quality. However have you had a look at the size of a conventional CRT 36"? Check the weight too, they are just huge. The shop I wanted to buy from, because of service etc, do not stock 36" CRT units because health and safety rules mean they need to send out three people to install it and if it needs servicing they have to send two out because of the weight. One reason I bought a Plasma, some good LCD TV's out there now....

if you look in one of the audio visual mags i think it is a new Panasonic or Philips 36 CRT which has fantastic reviews . best TV of all kinds, nothing touches it. something to do with the processing. its about 1000 but may get it cheaper. got an award of the year

Sith, according to that RS advert there is no way to connect to the panel!
Includes Tuner X
S-video X
No Scarts 0
No RGB Scarts 0
Are they perhaps selling it without the video board? If so your looking at at least another £150
Good panel though, worth bearing in mind that all the black ones were commercial panels and if you have a silver one with a sprayed silver on/off button instead of a shiny chrome one then its an import, don't know where you stand with warranties etc on those.

Ive got a Philips CRT and pic quality is superb. Wouldnt buy Sony ever again as I just simply had too many reliablilty problems with their stuff.
Guy who delivered my TV also told me he collects far more Sony TVs for repair under warranty than any other make.

Another great quote from the RS page.
" sales assistants are neither trained, qualified nor insured to do installations. "
Basically they don't know a thing about the product so wouldn't have the first clue how to set it up.
"Having said that, we are happy to give advice in-store or over the phone where possible."
Having said that we will bull **** you 'till you go away.

Philips are ALOT more reilable that they used to be...mainly because all their crappy tat is pushed out under the Bush or Grundig brands.
My personal preference is Toshiba (picture frame model) followed by Philips.
My mate on the other hand rekons the Philips is better than the Tosh.
Does picture quality really matter when you have cateracts?

Toshiba are the way to go I think - as someone said great picture, not too many gadgets and a sensible price. My mate got one about a year ago and for the money it's an excellent piece of kit.
BTW I'm pretty sure that if someone did a survey they'd find most B & O owners also own a BMW - badge engineering at it's best
tiggers.

36" Tau Panny in the lounge , 4 years old superb, untold use, as already mentioned, total weight with stand is 110 kgs, you'll struggle with the zimmer
28" Panny in the bedroom 10 years old also also superb
The Philips I bought in 1991 is still being used by my mum, gave it to her in 95 and its still perfect although she has just bought the 100 htz 36" Panny for her lounge and the philips get relegated to the bedroom.

Those who say that 100Hz is no good for terrestial TV - why?
I understand that you can turn the 100Hz off though and revert to 50Hz?
Also, my father-in-law has a Panasonic 32" - crap picture because of crap reception BUT, one thing drives me nuts about it is it keeps swapping from widescreen to narmal and back again??????

I have noticed that no-one have ALL 3 running in the same store, on the same programme and visible with each other ..................... very difficult to remember what one was like in another shop.
Also, lots of shops play through DVDs (the Plasmas and LCDs look great with that input) but normal TV reception is where quality tells
