Question New Job offer - How to ask for more money

Got offered a new job today,
but I want to ask for more money before I willing to move to this new job.
Whats the best method of doing this

Well you could try to play off where you work now to see if they'd give more money to keep you. Then ring the new company and see if they'll match it. This could backfire though!

The other thing i've done before is said, i'd love to come and work for you, i could give you an answer now if you could increase the offer to x.

May be worth adding, you are really interested in the job, but feel with your experience you had been hoping for a bigger increase from your current salary, to make it worth the move.

If you ask and they say no, another good ploy is to suggest that if the money isn't available now, that they agree to give you an agreed (£xk) rise in 3/6 months at the end of your probationary period - once you have had chance to prove your capabilities and worth. It is very difficult for them to not give you the rise if you complete probationary period and stay on and it also looks professional from you, that you are prepared to demonstrate your capabilities first.
