I have a 42" Sony Rear projection at the moment. Picture quality is good but not on a par as a good plasma. Cheaper Plasmas are usually pretty poor so until the prices of the 'good' ones come down, I'm sticking with the rear projector.

Cheers Taff,
what is the sound like on the Sony??,
Also it doesn't help in the showroom as all the tv's are connected to the same one or two systems and you will always get distortion,so it is hard trying to guage picture quality.(so the salesman said anyway).

Hyundai plasma? Please no!! Get any other make, I'll pay the extra!!.... (ok I wont!)
Rear projection is old tech - wouldnt even consider one now.
richersounds do some great deals on plasmas, 1299 would get you a 42" Panasonic:

Ta! lol
The sound is pretty good however I have mine piped through the Sony DAV S500 surround most of the time. I agree though, if I could, I would lash out a bit more and get a decent Plasma instead of a cheap plasma or rear projector. I've had mine a couple of years now but the picture is good and therefore cannot justify getting a plasma (yet!)

That 42" Panny plasma is a steal - 5 star rated and a superb bit of kit - I got one!
Rear projection is cack IMHO, though it seems to have come on a bit lately, seen some in stores that are fairly respectable now, still wouldn't tie up half the room with one though when you can hang a plasma on the wall

There's a new Samsung rear projection using new technology and it's almost as slim as a plasma - the picture is fantastic, streets ahead of the Plasma/LCD crowd. It's reviewed in the latest what HiFi mag and they also agree the picture is better than any Plasma/LCD. I saw it in Makro at £2,500 + vat for the 50" - guess there must be a smaller one though.

Depends on what you want - if it is picture quality, then neither a back projection or plasma screen will beat a good CRT. Good plasmas are still going to cost you more than 1200 quid. Choice is yours....
