Default Going to USA For New Year-Want to Buy A Digital Video Camera...

Will I be able to use it over here?Obviously the power pack is going to be different but will it just be a case of buying a new transformer or is there more to it than that?
Also, any recommendations for a cheapish one that would be suitable for mounting inside the car for trackdays and the odd bit of ****.Only kidding...... about the trackdays.

Are you thinking DV cam, if so check it is PAL not NTSC. Mate bought one in duty free and saved ££££'s, might be worth a look.

It might not need a new power pack, just a new lead. A lot of electronic stuff now has an autosensing input voltage adaptor (say 100-240V) and a regional specific lead.

Yep - after checking that the transformer says 110 - 240v and 50-60Hz just cut the two pin mains plug off and put on a Blighty plug. Have done this with my cams. Canon now tend to have a plug in the wall charger so you will need an adaptor if you get a Canon.

Dont buy an NTSC cam - not worth the hassle if you want to play baby shots/trackdays/**** on your Mum's old TV, and the quality aint as good anyway.

Go to www.bhphotovideo.com on fifth av, and tell 'em I sent you there (they'll look at you as if you were mad!!!) That's where my Mum's Xmas cam came from.
