Default sold item on ebay not arived what would u do?

i sold a £300 item, on the auction i set the postage costs low to aid the sale, it was stated as royal mail standard first class, i added the option for insurance for an extra £2

the winner did not pay the extra insurance so the item went out standard delivery

it has not arived as yet and looks like has gone walkies

i have my proof of postage in one huge receipt as posted 5 items at same time, i have 99 feedback on ebay

as far as im concerned its not my fault i can prove postage and i will do everything in my power to get somin outa royal mail but i feel they will just say no insurance was purchased

Be careful- if he paid via paypal, he may be able to claim it back!
Paypal will ask you for a tracking number, and if you cant provide it, you may be screwed. Even though you have a reciept for postage- for some reason paypal still only accept a tracking number as proof. Daft really.

I never ever ever send stuff ive sold on ebay unrecorded now.

I always send recorded to, because you never know if they are trying to pull a fast one. The item may have been delivered, but they are claiming it hasnt so they dont loose 300 notes. At least if sent recorded you would know if someone signed for it or not.

On the other hand, post at this time of year can be really bad. It may still be in the system, to be delivered in the new year, especially because you sent the item standard delivery.

ill second that
Been a nightmare with the post the last few weeks- they must have a massive backlog, as even recorded first class stuff i have sent has been taking up to and ocassionally more than a week to arrive.

oh right
Thats fine then- he was offered insurance, and declined.
Scan the reciept and email him a copy.
Not your problem if he declined it- harsh as it sounds!

unrecorded=no insurance, i know this from experience
Even first class recorded is only covered up to 28 quid.

You could try it, but they will just say if it was valuable why did you send it normal post

I appreciate that this doesn't help right now, but I always require buyers to pay for postal insurance just in case of this happening - it helps avoid any misunderstandings; you can bet that if something really does get lost in the post, the buyer will be after you for a refund. Also if it hasn't really got lost, you're protected too.

After losing something worth 200 quid (I refunded the buyer) I now only post special delivery as Paypal/ebay do not regard even recorded delivery as proof of postage. As the guy paid by cheque and did not take insurance its his prob sadly.

Paypal is Crap.. I Sent an item by Courier, got a "signature", bloke claimed non delivery, Paypal refunded him..

When questioned, paypal would not accept the Couriers tracking number alone as proof..
Why? Because the guy had not signed his own name on the delivery manifest.. So if the parcel is delivered and a relative signs for it then this will also be disregarded..
Finally the guy de-registers from ebay and disappears with my Goods and refund!!

Paypal states that the seller must PROVE delivery, not the purchaser.. Any doubt goes in the purchasers favour.

So The easy way to de-fraud people is to Purchase goods by paypal, then sign your name mickey mouse on the delivery note, contact paypal to claim non delivery and a refund..

I guess that will be why paypal-UK is based outside the United Kingdom, and therefore will not operate under english law..

The first thing I realised when I started on ebay, NEVER, EVER, EVER, EVER trust Paypal The way it's rules & regs are set out is effectively a scammers charter As 206CC said they are set up outside the UK for a reason

PS Back on topic, I would say that the post is sh!te at the best of times give it a chance at this time of year

Why bother offering to send something recorded delivery when the insured value greatly exceeds £28?

By "saving" 2 quid, you and the customer are just asking for the trouble you are both now experiencing....

When did you post it?

I never use paypal for accepting cash only sending it and that's only if I have too I tend to find cheques easier although it can be a pain paying them in but I think it's worth it.
