Getting progs off Sky+ onto DVD?
Don't have a standalone DVD burner so was wondering if there's a way I can copy files off the sky+ box onto my laptop so I can then burn them onto DVD from there. Can this be done easily?

You cant simply copy files from the sky+ hdd, its formatted in a way which no PC Operating system would recognise. So its not as straightforward as it could be
I do it to my desktop PC. But the only effective way is via sky+ s-video out to PC TV capture card IN. i.e capture it in mpeg2 format on the PC, then cut n edit out ads etc, n burn to DVD with Nero or alike. The quality is dependant on the TV capture card you use. I have the Leadtek XP2000 pro card, and its fine for decent DVD output.
To a laptop you'll need a USB capture device. I dont know what would be best, probably a Hauppage of some sorts, they do decent USB ones.

If you have a DV camcorder and a Firewire port to hand then you can sometimes run a video source through the video in connector on the camcorder and it will pass it to the Firewire port so you can use your regular video editing software (e.g. iMovie, Win Movie Maker) to capture.
So the chain goes:
Sky+ -> Camcorder video in -> Camcorder Firewire -> PC/Mac
It's called "video passthrough" or something like that. Just thought I'd throw it in on the off chance you had the equipment already.
