Unhappy No MOT?

Was stopped last week on a random stop and was given a producer (check only).

Went to find all my docs but was unable to locate the MOT. Had it MOT'd a couple of days later and produced that along with my other docs. The guy at the desk (civi) went out of his way to be a pain (20mins). He wanted to see one which applied to the date is was stopped. I told him I was unable to locate it and that my current one should be sufficent. He recorded it as NO MOT and made a small note saying I had produced current MOT cert. I asked what would happen if I was unable to locate the old MOT and he said I would have to wait and see if I get a summons.

This was the same police station who told me they were 'too busy' when I reported that I was held up at gunpoint by car-jackers just down the round a few moments before

Really are a pain in the ar$e.

Anyway, does anybody know whether:

a) I am likely to get a summons

b) The likely offence/fine if found to be at fault

c) whether the follwing documentation would be suffice to prove my car was road legal and mot'd at the time (MOT cert from Jan 2003 to Jan 2004. Road tax disc purchased in May 2004. Current MOT certificate) Obviously from that documentation it is clear that I was MOT'd at the time of producer (ie must have been MOT'd at time of purchasing road tax licence).

Your views/advice are welcomed

fine is something peanuts like 50 quid (non endorsable)- thats if it went to court
if you produced a valid one within the producing time, then it is doubtful it go to court. It shows it was a genuine mistake and you went out of your way to rectify it within the stated time

No biggie
hes just being a pedantic and awkward *******

Come on, they probably get scallies everyday trying it on, not having an mot then when pulled get one 'sorted', same with insurance, tax etc. However genuine your case, they can't make exceptions just for you now can they?

Anyway, rant bit over. Helpful bit coming up. Just go to where you got the car MOT'd and get a duplicate made up (they have to keep records, just give them a little notice to dig the thing up). Charge should be about £10. I lost the mot certificate earlier this year and just phoned the garage up and they said no problem and just had the duplicate made up. Easy.

Think I read on 5ive-o that a MOT only states a vehicle was fit for the road on the day it was issued.
Also if you did not have one as long as you can prove your care is sound with no major defects it could be argued against, (as yours obviously was).
As above take what they want to give as its non endorsable.

Freak: thats sounds okay. i was worried about them going for unroadworthy vechile = uninsured =

Dracoro: 'Scallies' probably wouldnt bother stopping their car and give correct details etc. I see where you're coming from though. For one reason or another I cannot get a duplicate of the MOT cert.

DoT should be able to get you one - and I'm sure there is a database somewhere to help!

Oh, well - in that case I wish you luck .............. it would be rather petty to 'do' you - but - its easy for them isn't it?

You can phone up your local branch of the vehicle inspectorate to get a duplicate, but you need to know what garage it was MOTd at for them to find it.
