About time too. Now all we need is a load of 20,000ft tall masts near all major flight paths, e.g. near the North Pole, mid Atlantic etc, so I can get a decent signal.

The plane will have it's own cell, no need for 20,000ft masts
And the kit I make will be used to relay your mobile phone call via satellite to the ground based networks. (http://www.emssatcom.com/solutions/s_aeronautical.asp)
Keeps me in work
Internet access is also coming

Great ! The one last place for peace and quiet. Now we will divs with sad ring tones and replacing the "Im on the train" to "Im on the plane" !....arrrrghhhhh!
I can imagine a few people getting a whack by someone. Certain people on planes need the slightest thing to set them off.

If they make it compulsory that they must be on silent/vibrate only- then maybe
even better would be text messages only- no calls allowed.
Still a pain tho- and i can see it receiving a mixed response.
lol
'First class ticket please'
'Certainly sir- would you like phoning or non phoning?'

FFS, WTF did we all do before we had the bl00dy things Barring an emergency call relating to nearest & dearest, can't we leave the things alone even for a few minutes. I always thought smokers were sad, the desperation they suffered if they couldn't have their fix, but phone freaks are worse. If there was one thing I could un-invent ....
I don't even switch mine on, unless I'm away from home and not with my partner. £50 credit lasts me 2 years. If only I was clever enough to have put all the money I've saved over the years into buying shares in mobile companies. License to print money

Can't believe they are so stupid as to allow that sort of irritating racket on aircraft. You always get the person who thinks they have to shout at the phone too, totally unnecessary but very anti-social.

Having said that I hardly use my mobile either and yes it is very irritating on the train etc. As mentioned it will be quite expensive to use you mobile on the aircraft, at least the cost of an international call when roaming (i.e. at least £1 min). Should put most people off

I have seen some muppet on his phone as we were taxiing for take off! Apart from ignoring the stewardess who had told him to switch it off 5 minutes earlier it was suprisingly (and grotesquely) intrusive having someone rah-rahing into his phone in such an unfamiliar environment!
I can definately see complaints arising from this.
Every time you hear a buzzing noise on the tannoy everyone will be looking around to see who is about to get a text message!
