I don't like this model, but I do have 3 or 4 Tag's(all quartz) and they've been fine watches. For your £1700 you're getting a nice distinctive watch. If it's the style you like, and you are buying to wear it (rather than just polish it and trade up in a year), then go for it. Don't be under any illusions that it will retain value and be easy to sell on however...it's a pretty common watch and has limited appeal (eg I personally dislike square faced watches)

Chuckster - is it also available in Burberry?

Coming to David Beckham's wrist this Christmas, I'll bet.

Brendan, you know a couple years ago I'd have laughed at the very idea of IWC's being worn as 'bling' ...but then who would've predicted Burberry would be the chav's weapon of choice in the '00's

I don't think they are bling, yet - but with a six-figure price tag, it's only a matter of time before it becomes the discerning footballer's timekeeper of choice IMHO.

Wait three years and pick a used one up for 20k, that's my advice

thats pretty nice and all, but doesnt seem to have a stopwatch or musical alarm, which you'd kinda expect at that price

I tried on the one you are after- didnt look right with me having scrawny pigeon/twiglet wrists. Shame as it is a really nice watch

That IWC thing is hideous- the dial is nice, but whats with that wierd shark fin type thing on the edge of the case

The only TAG allowed on my wrist would be.....

http://www.tagheuer.com/basel2004/monacov4.lbl

Click on the video, well worth the 37 secs download time.

BigSinky, Glad to hear the SeaMaster is still in good hands, or on good wrist......

I know I'm about to come across as seriously ignorant but what makes a watch ever worth £100k?

I'm a prototype engineer so I appreciate quality, bespoke engineering but wtf?

Indeed. Although they do make some nicer ones. Missus bought me this one today (Christmas pressie):

My first proper expensive watch (although currently wearing a Raymond Weil Tango).

Some of the Tag Heuer Carrera re-issues are looking particularly nice at the moment. As this watch collecting is addictive, I may have to pick one up in the new year. Current favourites are:

Steel bracelet:

1964 re-issue:

this one:

although I agree, it would be better if they just said "Heuer" like the originals.

Thats nice your new one- nice and simple.

Here is mine (library pic.. ive posted it before on a thread and cant be bothered searching for it...). Note the logo! :
http://www.chronomaster.co.uk/B65heuer2.JPG

I had a good look at the 1964 ltd jobby the other day- (second one you posted). Was v nice and im considering it possibly maybe soon- although there are others on my list of potentials (including a 1960s rolex and a seamaster from the same decade).
The metal bracelet one is nice too- but i cant wear a metal bracelet!

This watch thing is strangely addictive........
