Default Best value track day / driving experience

Looking at getting myself and missus a driving experience for Christmas.

There are so many around, could people recommend ones they have done? There may already be a thread to this, but I can't see any.

Basically, I don't want to spend the earth, but on the other hand, there is no point going cheap and getting 20 minutes driving time during the "day" as some of them do.

Not fussy about the type of day, rally, tuition, supercar etc, just want to spend as much time behind the wheel to get most out of it...

Cheers

get a ferry ticket to france, a full tank of petrol (or 10) and get over to the Nurburgring - oh and pay £7 a lap of the best racing circuit in the world

P.S. watch a vid of it first - about 50 times

Well technically the 'ring is a public road, therefore your normal road insurance should be applicable, providing its valid in Europe. Though I've no doubt this is quite risky (should you have to make a claim) so additional trackday insurance might be a good idea. This site offers some good info :

http://www.nurburgring.org.uk/

and there's quite a few people on here who've made the pilgrimage a few times, I'm sure they'll post some useful stuff ..

2000Tlondon ........your certainly wear your brake pads out quickly over there mate ......a set last me approx 25 laps.

I dont think I would bother about the driving experience things, some supercars regulate your RPM and they dont encourage you to push on .......However the best experience in the UK is the Palmersport day at Bedford. Not cheap, around £600 - £800 i think but its full on driving cars from Caterham to JP1 and the instructors MAKE YOU give it billy ohhh.

I went to Thruxton and had an excellent experience, the cars were great and the staff very friendly and helpful. I spent £160 and got laps in the F355 and 911 Turbo + passenger laps in their MG ZS180 cars.

If you want to learn car control, rather than drive exotica, then Don Palmer is one of the best.

I'd highly recommend some tuition before a track day, and you'll really surprise yourself!

I think Don charges about £300 or so, http://www.donpalmer.co.uk
