Yes, I did it a few years ago - just ring up your insurers and ask. All you miss out on is the ability to shop around for the best quote on your new car - though you may find that with a new policy, you'll be able to get temporary cover on your old car too.

I had my Zetec-S on my insurance as a Temporary Additional Vehicle with Tescos for 3months. Was about £12 a month!

Mine likewise - when I got the scoob, transferred the main policy to that, kept the old car on at £25/week IIRC on a "car for sale" policy.
