DLP Tele's now in the shops!!!!
Samsung 50" DLP Widescreen TV
Get this:- 1500:1 Contrast Ratio
Most LCD's are, what? 400:1!!
£2499:99
Is this the answer to "What should we buy, LCD or Plasma?"

DLP Widescreen TV
Some LCD TV's Ive seen have had surprisingly poor picture quality - far behind a good CRT... on the other hand I dont think I could buy a CRT as theyre now such a huge dated looking box.

DLP™ technology is a revolutionary display solution that uses an optical semiconductor to manipulate light digitally. It's also a proven and dependable technology preferred by leading electronics companies worldwide, with more than 2 million systems shipped to more than 50 manufacturers since 1996.
DLP™ technology is in use wherever visual excellence is in demand. In fact, it's the only display solution that enables movie projectors, televisions, home theater systems and business projectors to create an entirely digital connection between a graphic or video source and the screen in front of you.
The result is maximum fidelity: a picture whose clarity, brilliance and color must be seen to be believed.

If you watch movies on a regular basis, I would spend about £800 on a good CRT or even less, and also buy a projector for watching movies on for about £1000 add the price of a screen for about £200 or even make your own. You've just saved yourself about £500.

buy a projector for watching movies on for about £1000 add the price of a screen for about £200 or even make your own
Epson projector from ebuyer - £550
84" Screen from ebuyer - £80
Panasonic DVD, amp and 5.1 speakers from Richer Sounds - £350
...and you have a sub-£1K home cinema system.

Anyone have one of these Epson LCD projectors EMPTW10 ? Thought of getting one myself just for movies and the X-Box, wondering what the quality is like.

I am waiting for the pslewis thread called "next big thing in video - Betamax"
I believe that when senile dementia hits hard the last decade or two can be wiped from memory and the sufferer believes they are living in the 70's, 80's or 90's. At the minute, PS is still in the 90's, but it will be no time before he is telling us that semi-conductors will never take over from ferrite cores

Did Semi-conductors take over from ferrite cores? or was it valves?
Anyway, anyone know how long the valves last in a DLP TV before they need 'wiggling'

Valves, transistors and then composite chips which are a collection of transistors and other electronic devices on one unit (both made with semiconductor material of one type or another), Ceramic valves for high amplification and power output.
Ferrite cores and toroids are used to tune or increase the effective inductivity of coils either free standing or in transformers.
