No. I know what the butterfly effect is, but I've never seen the film you are referring to.

watch it again it makes more sense. Basically Ashton haas the ability to recall events from his childhood and relive them but each time he tries to change the events of where he's been he screws up something else so each path is different and he lives the resulting life as a direct result of what he's changed. I think ive confused myself again

The film confused me as well (and at times made me jump!)

Every time he goes back he slowly makes things right for everyone else. Until, just before the last jump, he remembers what the palm reader says about him being a fluke or misfit (something like that) and the only way for everyone to be okay is for him not have made it past childbirth.

A bit sad in the end really.

Hmmm... dodgy philosophy. The flukes and the misfits are what have driven evolution and human endeavour throughout history.

Give me Capra's "Wonderful Life" any day.

Quite true Bubba.

So it is fair to say that "many have gained through the suffering of the few"?

Anomolies in the gene pool/mide set have spawned new ways of thinking?

Bugger, it is too late on a Friday to think about these type of things

Aaaaaaah Glassshopper

I thought the "Butterfly effect theory" was basically saying that the molecular disturbances made by a butterfly launching itself from the newly opened petals of a perfectly formed white carnation causes a tiny air disturbance that slightly sways a leaf on a nearby sapling causing it to flex and return ever so minutely.

This, in turn, causes a leaf on a larger tree to tilt, minutely. This minute tilt is enough to disturb the wasp that was resting in the morning sun. The fast beating of the wasps wings cause a number of leaves to move from rest and also startle a nearby hummingbird which stirs and spots the fleeing wasp, The humming bird takes chase and flies, at speed, through the forest to catch the wasp. As the bird catches the wasp, it lands heavily on a branch of a tree to devour its reward. The commotion of a hummingbird landing raises the attention of a nearby Golden Eagle which takes to the air majestically before swooping down and making short work of the hummingbird.

to be continued.....

you missed the bit about the eagle getting hit by an airplane, which crashed and was blamed on terrorists, so GWB went off and started WWIII

I believe it was Edward Lorenz who first used the term "butterfly effect"

Also don't forget the fact that the mother said she had previously had two still births and thats why he was her miracle child ( when he has his fortune read, the teller says he has no soul too). So his other siblings had also the 'gift' and had done the same.
