I've had one for the past few years and I've never had a problem.
If 'bad stuff' does happen to you, they've got policies in place to protect you as a buyer.

sending money via paypal is free
its the sellers who get charged when they receive money.
You can pay using your credit / debit card straight, you don't need to add funds if you don't want to - and to be honest, getting a "varified" account is a long winded affair...

2. The seller pays. You also pay if you withdraw less that £50 from your Paypal account to your bank.
3. A credit card is always better.
Have you checked out Nochex? www.nochex.com

i started using paypal in April 2001 and have so far not had a single problem. I have sent/recieved funds to/from USA/UK/Europe/Japan *touches wood*
With paypal you can pay via your CC once you have a paypal account setup. For USA acount holders you can recieve CC via paypal without the sender having a paypal account, so if you are dealing with a USA vendor ask them to send you a CC invoice, hopefully this option will come to the UK soon.

Paypal are **** if something goes wrong. Tried and tested ****, and my wife has several emails from them to prove it. (yes the seller is at fault, but he has closed his account, so unlucky) I wouldn't use them if my life depended on it
