Hi there i was thinking about getting some wheels from the US and wanted to know about possible tax and customs charges, are there any UK businesses who import products from the US or has anyone else tried to do this thanks....

I've ordered some from the US and waiting right now.

My intercooler tax cost me £40 when it arrived from US.

Dont expect it to be too much. And a small price to pay to get something different.

I'm sorry, but that's not the best advice.

"If" it gets stopped by customs, and a shipment as big as wheels could well do, you can expect the following,

Cost of goods ("Invoiced" value !) + cost of shipping x circa 5% (duty) x 17.5% VAT.

Be very careful to make sure you know what the shipping includes, or excludes.

Confirm your shipping quote is "Door to door", otherwise you'll incur extra charges in the UK.

With regard to "invoiced value", one thing to be aware of, is the value you want the goods "insured" for. If you have a high value order, make sure the goods are correctly covered, just in case !

Mark.

As Mark stated above, good info. especially the door to door.
Also all shipments that come from or go to the states by carriers have a section on delivery notes that have 'duties and charges' make sure this is marked as 'shipper' to pay and not receiver, that way you will not incur the costs.

Ok so when do i pay the tax and customs when it comes here or when the person sends the goods

Also with the intercooler who is doing the shipping, and do u get a tracking number.
Would it be possible to send the goods with someone trader or main dealer(scooby or motoring parts) and save some on shipping?

I know my supplier, i know my delivery address, i know my final price.

I also know a little bit about customs taxation and i dont expect to pay more than around £60 quid tops for the extra.

In fact i'm expecting to be billed. I'm not bothered if i do.

I want the wheels, just as i wanted the IC, header, pulleys, filter, etc that i have already had delivered, to my door.

So far i have saved a fortune, the tax hasn't spoiled any of my purchases.
