Talking Advice on Mobile phone navigation software

Hi all

I am looking for some advice on which software/hardware is best, i have a Nokia 7610 and like the idea of using it as a GPS and i have seen some software even has camera locators built in.

I'm not 100% with technology and appreciate your advice

Ray

I use TomTom on a PDA. Plan to set it up with their Traffic subscription in due course assuming work don't replace our 6610i's with bloody blackberrys.

Never used route 66 so can't pass comment. Found the odd thing with TomTom such as the maps are a little out of date in some places, and I am on my 3rd GPS unit (always replaced with no fuss). The first 2 weren't very secure and used to fly about on the dash, expect they didn't like it. The latest is stuck down and it hasn't missed a beat. The itinery option on the latest version is great. Been house hunting lately and it has been an absoutle boon for that.

TomTom doesn't have cameras by default. It supports a thing called "Point of Interest" (pushpins if you know Autoroute). Basically you can import a load of GPS locations and assign an Icon to it (I have done the same with Shell and BP garages as well as a few other things).

You can also get CheckPoint (a free download from the net) for TomTom which will look out for upcoming points of interest you register with it and it will play a sound etc when you are getting close. It will also track your average speed through SPECS zones etc (essential in Nottingham).

You may find you need to do something else with Route 66. Also worth having a look at http://www.pocketgps.co.uk for more general blurb. This also where I got some of my POIs including the cameras.
