Running-in a rental car

Running-in a rental car
Got a rental while my car's being fixed.
Brand new Megane, 6 miles on the clock, and I can't believe I'm staying below 4,000 rpm and not giving it full throttle all the time.
Does this make me:
a) mechanically sympathetic or
b) stupid?
Should I start caning the **** off it?

It's a Renault - I doubt whether the crapheap will benefit one way or the other from running in - it will fall to bits in a few years regardless so cane it and cane it hard BTW Renault's make an F1 pitlane style noise when bounced repeatedly off the rev limiter, honest

apply the handbrake at every set of lights, and dump the clutch at 6k.
also take it for a few reverse doghnuts through a building site.
you havent done the job propery, until to remove the ignition key and it overruns for at least 30 seconds!!!
get caning now!!! - you are wasting time.

i assume you lot are also happy for garage workers to thrash your cars when they are in for a service?
You actually think that the rental co gives a toss ?
The more damage to the cars, the more Joe Public ends up paying... simple

Ahh clutchless gearchanges - guilty as charged
Very handy thing to learn and practice just incase your clutch cable/cylinder breaks

I've caned a few hire cars in my time but I've always made sure the engine is warm and that no real harm is done but clutchless gearchanges and flying over speed bumps is just pure vandalism.
Many of these cars are provided by lease companies and many of you will probably end up buying one never knowing of it's history as a hire car!

I had a brand new MG Rover ZS with less than 10 miles on it as a courtesy car in March. When it was delivered I asked about how to treat it and was told not to worry about it as "they are now pre-run-in on a bench".

When i had a Nissan Almera for a couple of weeks i drove to work and back (60mile round trip, through towns, and nice a+b roads) in 4th gear, from start to finish, just to see if it could be done...
...it could

Also make good night rally cars.
Pop to the airport on Saturday morning. Collect yourself something pokey and nimble (Focus is good). Set of 100w bulbs, nip up the handbrake, map 118-119, an afternoon kip and plenty of Mars bars and you're ready for an evening's sport.
Flat out down some of Derbyshire's or Wales's finest lanes, "whites", watersplashes and farm tracks, a 6am pint at the finish, quick kip, and spend Sunday pressure washing the pig **** and grass from the underneath.
Of course I do not condone such activities. <cough>
