Sound more like psychiatrists than psychics.

Those claiming to possess extraordinary powers use the word to describe their particular abilities and attributes regardless of how they are applied or manifested. Thus a clairvoyant's ability to see the future would be described as 'psychic', as would a tarot card reader's intuitive reading, a dowser or water diviner's art likewise, and the power to move objects using the human mind (telekinesis) would also be a physical manifestation of psychic powers.

So basically - just like the policeman who arrested george michael

They must have seen you coming.

Psychics have a bad name, undoubtedly, but i for one definitely think there's something in the notion of a sixth sense.

Agree with everything apart from this. My dad is one of the biggest sceptics I know but I've seen him dowse a field using 2 metal wires bent at right angles. He picked out the drainage course 4 feet under the ground in a 6" culvert. A course which had never been charted and meandered across the 2 acre field. He was within a few inches of it at every point he marked on its course.

Amazing but definitely some scientific explanation related to magnetic fields I should imagine. Not sure how it works with 'Y' shaped wooden sticks mind.

Apparently, the annual conference of clairvoyants was cancelled due to unforseen circumstances.

I will go along with the possibility of an ability to somehow detect things in our immediate environment, but visualising future events and distance "readings" based on no available phsycical properties is obviously not possible.

Some examples:-

- Predicting the future based on knowledge and keen observation of relevent events leading up to the predicted event is feasible.

- Reading someone's state of mind from their body language, their tone of voice, or even some hitherto perception or sense that is physically possible but yet to be fully understood is feasible (hormonal scent, bioelectrical detection etc.)

- Predicting someone's fortune from their star sign alone

- Predicting someones future from a text message alone

- Detecting water with a twitchy stick

- Mediums talking to spirits

etc...

Considering we are using an inacurate gregorian calendar with 12 months instead of 13, its not very likely our star signs exist anyway.

Why do you think we have leap years and diffrent days in each month ?

Plus someone had to invent Tarot cards - how did they know what to put on them ?

lightning,
we have a leap year because our woefully inaccurate calander has 365 days in each year.
scientifically, it has been shown that to acheive any accuracy (and hence in 30 years time february is the height of summer) each year needs to be 365 and 1/4 days.
it is not feasible to have quarter days (ie 5am will become the middle of the day) so each fourth year we add a whole day.
under gregorian system we would be booking our summer holidays for march the 32nd next year...

Cool - go to www.randi.org and if he can actually show this effect under controlled conditions he can claim $1 million.

He's bloody welcome around my place at the moment. Toilets are backed up, no access to drains inside my property, and it looks like some Brain of Portugal decided to plant a fecking great palm tree smack on top of the main inspection chamber just as it exits the house but before it enters the road. I don't need a psychic to tell my why my drains are backed up, if that's the case

Home tonight and more digging to see if I can find it

I know you probably think I'm taking the ****. To be fair I would if someone else had told me it but I saw it with my own eyes. He's an engineer, one of the best toolmakers in the country to be honest and well respected. He's not spiritual in any way and would **** himself at tales of someone going to a psychic or a medium, but he can do this and says anyone can and that it's nothing to do with 'him' per sé. I'll check that website out but I get a feeling that it's not in this country. I'll pass the details on anyway.

Having just read the site I don't think I'll bother. How would he convince them it's paranormal when he doesn't think it is.

Just because people can't explain something doesn't mean that it's 'paranormal'. All it actually means is that no-one has explained it yet. In time they will. That's what's pretty much happened throughout time. For instance, does anyone actually believe that David Blaine can actually levitate? I know how it's really done and it's not 'magic' or 'paranormal' although the more naeve might think it is until you can explain it.

Ultimately, I believe many psychics prey on the naevety of the public and what hasn't YET been explained. Some without realising (normally only those without monetary gain involved.)
