Smile Digibox Help Please!

People,

A long shot...

Been tearing out what's left of my hair all afternoon, and unfortuntately the(digibox!) helpline is now closed. And Haemmordale is about to start.

I've been trying to tune in an Audioline "Freeview" box to a cheepo Pacific VHS / TV combo for some hours now and am at my wits' end. Even the 12YO nephew can't help anymore, and he's off to hockey practice now.

In short, I can secure 16 digi channels, which is a lot less than I expected, and have lost the 5 terrestrial slots. We have the same attachment on the same aerial on the main TV set in the house and this gives 78 channels, inc. the council ones.

I understand it's unlikely, but can anyone offer some advice, short of binning the ******?

Ta,

Nearly Hairless K.

Thanks Mate for replying, I knew it would be a long shot.

Going back to watching the radio now...

Somebody once told me I had a "Good Face For Radio" and I took it as a compliment.

Tulip.

Disconnecting the wee bar-steward device as I type.

I had the same problem when me and my dad installed one in his house, drives you feckin mad

At least you had a twelve year old to help our combined age was 102............ so no chance of us getting it right This coupled with my mum screeching "I cant see Corrie, i cant see corrie" in the background, made it most annoying.

Finally plummed for the wide band aerial and voted my mum put it up

It worked BTW

Isn't not being able to see Corrie a good thing though?

PaulR,

Ta.

Interesting, as the main selling point for me was the "one off payment".
Might follow this up, esp if my patience gets any lower.

All other respondees, ta also.

Device is still not tuned in correctly, and will remain so until the weekend. I think it's the Devil's own work TBH and am regretting it big stylee.

But I haven't a scooby. But wait a minute, what's that blue thing in the driveway?

It can wait until Saturday, the box-from-hell, that is.

K.

Certainly a decent arerial is needed : I've a decent one in our attic and this worked ok other than some (yes multiple) duff freeview units plus what I think turned out to be a crappy co-ax cable. Signal boosters will boost signal plus noise so you get better picture but any crap will get even crappier.
Good aerial plus good cable probably the answer.
