Ahh, but is the recommendations via a media related outlet (radio, TV, newspaper) ?
I must admit, almost every film which I have seen that is highly rated by the media has been crap, or at the least nothing worth shouting about.
It may not look like advertising.....but in most cases it is.

Reservoir Dogs must be the worst film of all time.
No action from start to finish.
Just a bunch of blokes in a warehouse pointing guns at one another, shouting and acting hard.
Even the infamous ear cutting scene happens off camera.

I thought Reservoir Dogs was fantastic, with the depth of characters, the comic bits, the way the story was told, the way it was shot (even though it was on a budget) and just the general grittness (sp? - if it is a word!!) of the film.
On the other hand, I found Pulp Ficton too polished, tried too hard to be like Reservior Dogs, the convoluted story and the way it was told.
Much the same for me with Kill Bill, I loved part 1 and found it clever with great story telling, but part 2 left me thinking "was that it?" The only saving grace in part 2 was the homage to old Kung Fu movies!!
Personally I watched Reservoir Dogs after all the hype had died down and just watched it.. and I was surprised that I really enjoyed it. I really looked forward to Pulp Fiction, but found I was left pretty dissapointed with the film!

21 Grams, what a pile of cack!!
Tried to tell the story in a clever fashion, but done very badly unlike movies like Memento which was cinematically fantastic IMHO!

(Yawn) Deer (yawn) hunter?(yawn, yawn)???:
Watched it with a mate, we'd heard such GOOD things about it, that we sat right through it waiting for SOMETHING to happen. It never did
Afterwards, we both said we wanted to go to the pub from the first hour in!
We "must" have missed the point of this "Great" film then?
