For dog fans, and wits - name this puppy!
Anyone got any witty suggestions on what to call a weimaraner puppy? We just picked him up on Monday, eight weeks old, still can’t agree on a name.
I don’t have a digicam, so no photos, but looks identical to this (except a bit better focussed!) :
Thoughts so far, on the silver ghost / grey ghost theme:
Rolls or Royce
Dorian (I think this is classy, problem is it has 3 syllables, not great for a dog name)
Sterling
Major (as in John )
Casper (friendly ghost)
As he is displaying a particular interest in eating (set) cement and sand, I’m wondering about calling him Gypsum or Portland
Wife wants Kira or Akira, but I think they sound a bit female. We also considered Batu, who was Genghis Khan’s grandson who conquered Europe as far as Vienna, but the dog doesn’t seem very aggressive, so I’ll probably leave that…
Other possible sources:
His mother is called India
He has an odd quiff at the back of his neck, like someone got a fingertip of gel and smeared it upwards. (Smudge, Stripe or Streak – if the latter, wouldn’t want to lose him at a football match )
Thanks in advance!
Brendan

Dorian
I'm waiting for someone to say Scooby, but I'm hanging in with Oscar, I reckon that's a good dog's name.

****break
No particular reason, just LMAO whenever I hear that name, and after watching American Pie 2 last week
Seriously though, Casper is cool
Or how about Wisp, or indeed Willow.

Nelson.
so you could say he was a
wee - mariner , boom boom
Or maybe call it Dave.
Nelson was a small man, 5ft 4in tall, of slight build, and never had a robust constitution.

Brendan,
So you got a puppy then? Excellent.
As for names, ooh, well, Jack is rather nice, but I'll get shot by somone for 'stealing' a name
I seem to recall that precious stones were used to name the first, if not both littlers from the stable of Kallasilya (plug the breeder, plug the breeder! lol ). So you could go for something like "ghostly slate".
I've always thought "Silver dream storm chaser" was a rather nice name
But I guess we are really talking about "at home" names rather than the fella's KC name or anything like that.
I like the idea of smudge/stripe/streak.
I only have to choose between two names for the puppy, Jessica or Emily, of course, I need the little grey lump first lol.

My mates got one of those dogs, it's a utter mentalist and is called Maverick. Not from Top Gun though apparently, more to reflect it's personality.
I'm a big fan of simple names though, so you could call it Dog/Alan/Steve etc. I used to have 2 snakes called "Snake" and "Other Snake" a few years ago, it got a bit confusing when "Snake" died as i just had "Other Snake" left.
If it's a bit silly like my mates, how about "Mongo" - nice and short.

Kennel name is "Ghost of [house name]", so same as the breed nickname effectively.
Wee-mariner - couple more vodkas and I could go for that one
I like wambo, too
At the moment we're watching him having great fun destroying a moose teddy that he was given to keep him company - wonder if we'll call him Robert ?!

I always recall what I first learnt about Weims all those years ago...
The Weim is a very intelligent dog, but they tend to be lacking in common sense
It's all true I tell you! They will happily lie by the fire, letting embers fall on them, but they won't move, or they stand with their head above the fire, getting nice and warm. The best is when they are trying to protect you, from some big nasty shadow, which is your own shadow, and you are just trying to get past the hound that is in the way.
Mongo? lol, like that. Might get a dog and call him Joey lol

Hey Markus, wondered when you'd arrive!
I asked about one from Suzy, last time we spoke she still had one left, but finally I got a local one - if I'd got one from the UK, given the price and export costs compared to the price here, the UK breeder would have had to pay me to take it
JD also appeals...
[FYI, this one has both tail and dew claws intact, apparently removing them is already illegal in a number of countries in Europe. I'm agonising over whether to remove them. I've seen how difficult it is to mend damaged ones.]
Iwan, I suspect Mongo shall be Right Out, given the nationality of my wife and son

Hi Brendan,
Well, you know me and weims
Yeah, Suz still had jack, but he's found a new home and seems very happy. She's still got mad Maggie and Tia, and I shall no doubt be getting ripped to shreds by the pair of them when I'm over at xmas and go round to play lol
Did you look into export costs? If so fancy PM'img me about what they would roughly be? As you can probably guess I'd love a pup and the obvious choice would be one of Suzy's, well, Maggies (you know what I mean! lol ).
Thought you'd like JD.
Tail and Dew claws, wow! As you know how hard it is to mend them, it might be wise to remove them. Hard decision to make I know.
Hope he doesn't damage his tail.
As for mongo, hmm, well, it could be seen as a tribute to them, so maybe it'd work.
