I'd have been happy enough with the "compromise" of smoking banned in restaurants, but I guess with so many pubs doing food, it'd have to be "food serving premises" which would be just about every pub these days anyhow!!
I suspect in 10 years time, it'll seem odd that one was once allowed to smoke in the pub - much like it is now very odd to think of people smoking on planes/offices/buses/trains etc.

The thing that bugs me is that it is banned in all licensed premises. The idea of a a 'members only club' is pretty feasible, you can choose to go there, but they have even fcuked that one up too. Thats my money making scam out the window.

Yep, well done Scotland.
Just have to wait until the English MP's have the ***** to do it. With the massive weight of public opinion it can't be much longer.
Cheers

Yeah, well the day everyone stops driving diesels, walking near buses, walking under pylons, operating microwaves and mobiles, eating burnt food, having bonfires, barbeques and open fires and just about every other fukcing thing that's supposed to cause cancer is the day that I'll take seriously the whining sods who target smokers as the easy option. Pah, and you lot go on about motorists being targetted. Get a grip.

agree - this is great news!
roll on 2006!
a compromise would never ever have worked.
employ some barstaff who would work in the smoke?
how would that work with insurance, etc. cant see it.
ah, so employ only smokers.
so what if someone gave up smoking? sack them?
im glad that someone had the guts to do this.
as someone said - in 10 years time we will look back on it the same way as we look back at the smoking at the pictures.
im very disappointed in the Tories apposing it tho.

BRILLIANT!!
Bring it on in England and Wales
I used to smoke and know how tough it is to give up, but give up I did ......
Quite why anyone with a full set of marbles would WANT to smoke is totally beyond me, certainly a female wiff a *** 'angin out 'er gob is about as attractive as a weekend break in Fallujha!!
Come on, STOP SMOKING - you have a brain, USE IT!
Just my humble opinion as ever

Have to agree with Pete. You honestly can choose not to smoke! There is no question it isn't good for you and a lot of evidence its actually bad for you. Then there is the cost! The money you spend could be spent so much better! I just don't get it - it certainly ain't cool and a lass is INSTANTLY 50% less attractive when she lights up. Seriously smokers, think about it

On a serious note, I wonder where the tax would be levied were everyone to suddenly give up smoking and driving non-fuel efficient cars, the two areas where tax and disgust go hand in hand. And how come no one mentions the medical side effects of drinking. Let's ban drinking in pubs! NO liver disease and no passive effects like copping a black eye off some ****-head or have aural asaault from some tanked up old **** dribbling out his over-the-top opinions as if they're the only ones that matter*.
*obviously not everyone requires alcohol to be able to do that.

Bollox to a ban. You have a smoking room and a non smoking room. If as a public house you cannot offer that then its a non smoking pub.
If its so bad for us or for the non smokers then stop fooking around and ban it full stop. No, too much taxation money to be gained from people dying. Yet they stick more non-death reducing speed cameras up. Ankers, the lot of them.

Started when I was 11 - gave up when I was 40 .... seems like 29 years to me.
The damage has probably already been done to me, sadly. But I can try and save others from the most stupid habit of modern times!
When I started smoking there was no real evidence of health problems in the public domain, yes, that IS an excuse!
As clearly there is NO excuse for smoking these days ............... or is there?
I would LOVE to hear a logical reason for smoking, really I would!

I know that there *could* be some medical issues awaiting me because I smoke. I'm also intelligent enough to know that my likelihood of incurring cancer of the respiratory tract is increased but I also know that quitting won't reduce the chances of me getting many other kinds of cancer, some much nastier.
We all have relatives or know of people who've smoked to a ripe old age as well as those who've never touched a cigarette only to die of the big C relatively young.
Genetically my chances of developing cancer would appear to be low, indeed I cannot think of one case in the four generations of my family that I've known. That doesn't make me feel invincible but it is of some reassurance.
So my feeling is that until I choose not to smoke, I'll continue to do it. As always in a way that is reasonable towards other people, respecting their choices.
Now please stop preaching. Refrain from labelling me as some sort of retard or social misfit just because my lifestyle doesn't reflect your own.

You have labelled yourself as a retard by continuing to KILL yourself - its not me that is giving you that label.
I take it you CAN read the warnings that are in BIG letters on the packet?

Again, my issue is with your attitude - "None so pure as those purified" has never been truer. Get over yourself, no one is that much of a fascist.

What's with the random capitalised WORDS? Do you think I will take you seriously if you DO that?

pslewis is a great wind up coz he touches right at the touchy points everytime.
this time, i agree with what he is saying.
also - why go on at his 'attitude'?
have u looked at urs?
urs is the same as all smokers - have distain for all 'scabs' and avid non-smokers who speak up against smoking/for a ban.
I have had arguments with smokers lots. everytime they get on their high-horse about the same things. gotta be a reason there - and i think every reasonable person could figure it out.
i can see ur humour tho
didnt make me laugh as much as Ali tho!
