Fred Dibnah has died
Heard it on the news earlier.
Died of cancer, shame loved his programmes and he seemed like a real decent bloke.
My thoughts go out to his family.

I'm originally from Bolton. Saw him thr first time when I was about 8 demolish a chimney not far from our house. No explosives just dug out a whole load of bricks at the base and then made a huge bonfire that made it colapse. Sat on the step of our little terraced house and watched it go down like all the others did around Bolton.
I also met him a couple of times. A nicer more down to earth bloke you couldn't wish to meet. He got chatting to my mum on a train once upon a time. She didn't have a clue who he was. He carried her bags off the train all the way to the exit. Wouldn't take no for an answer. I took the bags of him and he told me off (not in a serious way) for not meeting her on the platform. I was about 14. Met him again a couple or so years later at a country fair and he remembered me! "Alreet hows your Mam" I laughed. Again, he seemed a lovely man.
I'm sorry he's gone. Hope it went easy for him.
RIP Fred.

FD was a definate one off, brilliant bloke.
they are a dying breed unfortunateley, genuine people that is.
so what got him? - all the "parkies"? I feel sorry he is gone, but he enjoyed his time I would say, and he did what he wanted in life. I enjoyed his programmes anyway.

Another great broadcasting personality down. I loved Fred's programmes. Got most of them in VCD format. 'Dig With Dibnar' was a particular classic - the last programme he made it seems. He always seemed so spritely too. Will be sorely missed.

Shame they stopped him digging his coal shaft. They should turn his house into a museum, it would be great to preserve all his beloved machinery in one place.
Hopefully we'll see a boxed set of his programmes. They've given me many hours of enjoyment.
RIP Fred.

Fred Dibnah was a real character with an interest in all things engineering and a wealth of practical skills. May he rest in peace in the great fettling shop in the sky!

It seems that he has made a new 12 part series where he tours the country on a traction engine. Apparently he preferred to do this rather than submit to hospital treatment. Fair play to him, and I look forward to watching the programmes when they are aired next spring.
