Staying home? Local display?
I'm going to the Lewes parades in Sussex, to show them to the family before Health and Safety crack down on them for ever...

5th Nov is also the record day for house breakings, could it be that people always announce that they are going to a fireworks display for the night.

Car is being garaged, as I'd rather not have to call dent master to pop out the dents in my roof from stray fireworks. And also to stop it being covered in ash. I just finished cutting, polishing and waxing the thing to remove carbon deposits and chemical fallout. I don't intend on doing it again anytime soon
Plan is a night in. Seeing the house is empty bar just me, it's a nice target at this time of year. So mates will be popping round, might do something daft and fire up the BBQ, maybe some cheapy box of fireworks, and the odd crate of beer

I'm going to the Carshalton fireworks on the Saturday night, straight after Palace v Arsenal. Then onto the Woodman for a few beers, then the Star of Bengal on the High Street for a birthday curry. Feel free to rob my house!

Ali B- I have a man on the other line from the RSPCA who would like a word!
If you're gonna use anything as target practice, why not aim for anything Burberry!
I'll spend the evening in the garage with Scooby- neither of us like fireworks!
Personally, I'd like to see em restricted to shows only. I don't want to spoil the fun for thsoe who do like them, but most people don't show them nearly enough respect and they're a f&*king nuisance...that's before you consider the behaviour of kids who get hold of them!
Best.

Leslie, am I right in thinking you live in Plymouth? If so any suggestions for any interesting displays? Having been here for only 16 months or so we're not clued up on any of the less obvious options.

The day they're banned can't come soon enough. I used to love 'em as a kid but I'm pretty unimpressed by them nowadays. Once you add in the social menace that they've become in the hands of idiots I think we'll all be better off once it's organised shows on the 5th only. None of this 'weekend before, weekend after' nonsense either. It's not like the 5th is gonna change each year. If you love them that much keep that evening free to go see them.

Lewes is THE best fireworks display you can go to (probably not the greatest place to go if you're a Catholic - anyone who has been will know what I mean!). Details here for anyone that is interested. If you haven't been before, all I can say is get there very early - the traffic is murder and you can easily end up with 2 or 3 mile walk into town.
Me? I'll be at the Tempest Rally on Saturday (nothing planned for tomorrow), so by the time I get back, it will all be finished (hopefully) and like Justin I'll probably be drowning my sorrows in a pint at the inevitable hammering that Palace will get from Arsenal (not that I'm a pessimist about such things )

It's the night when we all let off fireworks and have big bonfires, to celebrate some chap who got caught 400 years ago just as he was about to blow up the Houses of Parliament.
I don't know if we celebrate his capture or the attempt....
