Ive been thinking about getting one and just wondering what people thought about them etc...
I thinking of getting the 20GB one, but not sure weather or not to get the std ipod or get the special edition U2 one for an extra £40.

Get something else .............. stand out from the crowd!!
Its a fashion statement, simple as that - buy one for what it does NOT what it says about you!! (***** that can't think for themselves)
Just my opinion - I bought a Philips HDD070 - MUCH better than an I-pod!

The iPod is a thing of beauty. Beautifully finished, and a lovely piece of design.
At only £200 now for the 20Gb model, it's not THAT much of a price premium over the nasty looking competition
It's a design classic. Doesn't matter that it is the 'easy' choice.

Anyway, that Phillips of pslewis is £130 and it is only 2Gb!!!

The 20Gb iPod is £200. Ten times the capacity for £70 more. No contest. Who wants a plasticy Phillips item when you can have the real thing for not much more.
I know you prefer tacky plasticy items though pete - witness your silver plastic 300D

Iv had my pod a wile now not really any problems with it. Only thing i have against mine is i use it for a portable HD aswell too transfer files between home and uni, but the USB cable is huuuuuuge.
There are many more mp3 players on market now compared too when i got mine, although the ipod is the best looking if i was buying 1 now i think id go for the I river.
ps stay away from the ipod mini iff you do go for one iv heard nothing but bad things about them
And iff you know a student who si a member off the student union get them too buy it from virgin where you will recieve 20% discount

The iPod is excellent. Can't rate it highly enough.
Get one, you won't be dissapointed.
Only a total berk would buy that Phillips junk that Lewis is on about.

Ipod is a top notch product. There are alternatives but as far as I am aware none of them come with software anywhere enar as good as iTunes.
Also the build quality of the iPod seems very good, some of the other MP3 players I ahve seen have felt cheap and plasticy and not that durable.

Mine made me feel terribly travel sick.
And before everyone says "don't listen to it while on the train" isn't that what its designed for?
So personally, I agree, its a top notch product, but be wary if you feel sickly easily. I didn't used to feel travel sick until I started using one.

My mate is on his third iPod & although he loves the ergonomics & software, he isn't happy with the reliability. He has also had to send it back to have the battery replaced within a year, which isn't cheap.
I will be getting one of the these at Christmas from Creative. You can guarantee that the sound quality will be top drawer as well.
I have also had a look at the new Sony 20GB player & that is tiny & very high build quality but I don't need that amount of storage space.

I have an iPod (40GB, 4th Generation Click Wheel version). Have had it for about 2 weeks.
Why did I go for an iPod? Part of the reason is the design, it is rather classy, another main reason is that I am a mac geek and you've got to do it lol.
I'm impressed with the little thing, it's got all my music on it, still has 15GB left, and plays like a dream.
U2 iPod or Standard iPod? Personally I'd go for the Standard one. I don't like the red clickwheel on the U2 version, plus it's only 20GB, and I wanted more space than that.
What I would have liked would have been a 60GB iPod that was NOT the iPod Photo, no doubt this will occur sometime soon, but hey, I'm happy with 40GB.
Oh, and when encoding songs, think about using AAC (.m4a files) rather than mp3. I'm told it'll save a bit of space and still sound great.
