A Discussion Topic : Self Harming.
Having spoken to someone to self-harmed, it was quite an eye-opener to hear how organised it was.
I always assumed that those who did this did so in a spontaneous fit - rather than have it marked out in their diary (so to speak).
The girl in question went through a rather violent relationship which led to her cutting her arms. But rather than getting the knive out when at a real phsycological low, she planned it all out beforehand. She'd arrange a time, place and what she'd use and plan ahead to have everything ready for "8 o'clock" as she'd say.
When the time came she'd calmly sit down and rip her arms to shreds.
Anyone else know someone who does this? (or does it themselves?)

Yeah, but isn't that more like body modification than actual 'real' self harming?
I don't know anyone who has done this, but if I did, I'd certainly listen to them as to why they do it and see if there's any way to help them stop, as it's not healthy.

I know somebody who did it. There was no planning involved.
I almost started doing it but got help just intime, there are occasions though where I still nearly do it. Nearly did it on Sunday, took a lot of mental effort not too.

Been there in my younger years and in hindsight it was more attention seeking than anything else ......that's in my case anyway.
However, my general understanding is that it runs along hand in hand with conditions like Anorexia etc where the person feels like they have zero control over anything in their life, but they can control what they physically put down their throats and I reckon that self harming is similar ......
People mention feeling a great sense of relief when they harm themselves but this didn't factor in my (limited experience)
Yes I was a basket-case and my list of injuries included 2 broken fingers that resulted from asking a mate to smash a 6 x 4 fence post over my hands as I rested them on top of a stone surface
The stupid **** actually did it ..............
....Needless to say, he's going to be my best man in January
Hope to hell he doesn't bring that little incident up in his speech, or the father in law will be dragging his daughter away to safety
