What one piece of advice would you give people?

Hi All,

When I was at School, my R.E teacher used to say, " Gentlemen, if you take nothing else away from what I teach you, remember this: be nice to people and you won't go far wrong".

Pupils used to take advantage of him left right and centre; he just couldn't bring himself to discipline the students himself. On that basis, one would be forgiven for wondering whether advocating being nice was particularly wise.

But you know what? I think he was spot on! In all my years of education, I can think of no more important lesson. Thanks, Mr G!

If you could dispense just one piece of wisdom to others, what would it be?

Doesn't have to be serious btw....

Best,

You never regret the things you do, only the things you don't.

No - That would be exciting

The real piece of advice I would give is "Remember - It's not a rehearsal"

Dad was a civil servant for 30 years. When I got a temporary job in the civil service (and I'm still around 9 years later) he told me "Careful what you say to people as you never know where they'll end up." OMG was that accurate - the middle manager, totally incompetent that everyone hated, being promoted to Director etc; or even people below you suddenly being promoted above you. Scary stuff.

Agreed. "One life, not a dress rehearsal".

Excellent.

"You're a completely different person at 20, 25 and 30."

Given to me by the guy who I reported to on my Uni work placement. The ONLY piece of advice I've been given I can readily quote - and I think its bang on.

Surely that's more of an observation than advice though. Had he said "Your life will be effectively over by the time you're 30 so make sure you've done enough drugs and shagged enough birds before then" that would have been advice .
