does anyone here have a legal brain where employment matters are involved?

I'm an HR type - though not a formal employment law expert - and it really doesn't sound right to me.
As you've been suspended you really need sound legal advice. Call your local Citizens Advice Bureau NOW and they can refer you to a local solicitor for help and advice.
