Question Missing front numberplates?

How many people drive around with missing front numberplates? Do you get pulled by plods often and what is the penalty (£30 no points?)?

I think they are harsher on non-std plates than no plates

I often didnt bother with a plate on the front of my impreza. Even followed cop cars with it (not there) never had any trouble.

got an 8" x 2" on my classic, bit of an eyeball by the fuzz in Rugby last week, however when the cop saw the grey haired old codger at the wheel he went on his way.

I had a prototype plate on my car that spun around inside itself. It was to be marketed but the inventor went with something else at the time and hasn't looked back.

I had a company car with the previous driver's private plate on it. When he finally got around to getting the car's original plate back, I got a new one made up and was given some double-sided sponge to stick it on with. I think that plate probably still resides on the M6.

I drove around for two weeks, first with no front plate and then with the plate lying horizontally on the dashboard so invisible outside the cars but proof that I intended to fit it.

Never got pulled once, possibly due to the front bumper having bits of broken sticky sponge where the plate should be.

The week and a half on the dash in the sun did what I intended and made the plate curve outwards so that it was the same shape as the front bumper and would stick properly... result!

Best thing to do is take your plate off, smash it a little, and throw it in the boot. If and when the copper pulls you, tell him you managed to break/hit/smash (any old bull**it) the number plate in sainsburys earlier today, and you had planned to get a new one this afternoon (or tomorrow depending on the time). This has worked for me a couple of times, as they seem to give you the benefit of the doubt, or maybe I just get coppers in a good mood?!? I think NO plate is definateley better than an illegal one.

Proby.

Cool

8x2 on the front, but am leaving the rear as standard. If a copper is driving behind you they are prob more likely to pull. By the time they've seen the front one they probably could'nt be bothered to turn round and come after you and hopefully they should have far better things to do with their time and my taxpayers money !!!

I keep the regular front plate with me in the car just in case though because the small one is a "show plate"

So it seems that its okayish to run around without front plates?

Are we allowed to display them in the windscreen (easier to flip/hide)?

Anybody know of any numberplate flippers.? I saw this lcd/led type plate which looked normal but you could turn it on and off and change reg....didnt make it to the market as far as I can remember.
