There's a guide to all alcoholic drinks in some of the weight watchers books, i.e. what 'points' they are.

From memory, 'WKD Blue' (girly alcopop) was by far the worst 'per serving'...

lol. Beer doesn't make you fat, it just makes your belley stretch and thus your belly comes out further than your chest. I'm not quite there but give it a year or two!!!

Just how much beer to you drink a week?

Drop sugars out your diet if you really want to lose weight.

Probably about 12-15 pints through the week and about 10 pints on a weekend.

ISTR there was also the discussion that fizzy drinks were bad, so beer is one of them.

Well if it's 200 kcals per pint, then you're drinking an extra 4400 - 5000 kcals per week!!

I'm not surprised you're getting a gut!!

Well, all alcoholic drinks contain alcohol, ( ), and alcohol is a fuel.

It is not needed in that sort of quantity by our bodies, nor can our bodies use it as it is, so we change it through one of the easiest syntheseses there is: into fat.

Again, we can't use it as fast as that, so we store it.

Here's another old wive's tale though: drinking beer gives you a beer belly as it stretches the gut wall. Not true.

Men store fat as VISCERAL fat, ie: round the viscera, or intestines. We end up with big bellys.

Women store fat as subcutaneous fat, all over their bodies, even when they aren't really fat. It's what makes them so soft and cuddly: It also makes them more able to resist cold, as they are insulated.

And to all the PC brigade out there: WOMEN ARE DIFFERENT TO MEN. Live with it!

From a page on the Telegraph's web site:

One measure (25ml) of gin = 170

One measure (25ml) of vodka = 55

One glass (120ml) of white wine = 88

One glass (50ml) of sherry = 68

Also, if I drink, I get pop bellied. 6 months ago I went without beer for 2 weeks and the difference on my gut was amazing!!

Beer will make you pop bellied. Scientists, using any hypothesis can pretty much "prove" anything.

Question

Senior AP, are you female, then?

If so, I'm surprised at a pot belly, if you're male, my point exactly.:

Alcazar

BTW: once females have stored LOTS of fat under their skin, they will get larger bellys too, as they will begin to store it viscerally.
