Book Recommendations?
Hello
I am spending much too much time away from home recently, and I am devouring books. Can anyone recommend an author and some books? As books are incredibly subjective, I like intelligent, hopefully humourous in places, books. I enjoyed the following authors:
Michael Crichton
Terry Pratchett
Dan Brown (well, the DaVinchi code anyway)
Stephen Fry
Thanks.
Steve.

Any of Bill Brysons, Down Under and Walk in the Woods are particulary good.
Robert Ludlam, the author of the books that the Jason Bourne Trilogy are based on.
Lance Armstrongs autobiography...Its not about the bike is the first and Every second counts is the follow up.
Tony Hawks...Round Ireland with a fridge.
Duncun Falconer...similiar to Andy Mcnab but better than his recent efforts.

Kathy Reichs - greusome forensic stuff.
Tom Clancy - Jack Ryan stories, not the op centre ones.
Ken Follett - Pillars of the Earth. Best book I've ever read.
Douglas Adams - Hitchhikers guide.
Alison Croggan - The Gift (Tolkein ish).

I thought that was pretty good too.
You might want to try:
The curious incident of the dog in the night time - Mark Haddon
(very enjoyable book - you can finish it in one day)
Survivor - Chuck Palahnuik (the guy that did Fight Club - in fact anything by this guy is good!)

If you like Pratchett you might enjoy Robert Rankin, Douglas Adams (Hitch-Hiker's Guide to the Galaxy etc) and Tom Holt.
Something a bit heavier - try some Iain Banks or Iain M Banks - the former are "mainstream" fiction, the latter SciFi but it's the same guy. The Player of Games, Against a Dark Background and so forth.
And another vote for Bill Bryson - A Short History of Nearly Everything is very good.
